Film Schools

does anybody know about film schools. Film here is in the Theater dept. but I want to take more classes. Do I have to know a lot about film already to get in? I want to direct and make films.

OP,

I was in TV production, but I've always heard that the very best film schools were UCLA and USC (Southern Cal). That certainly makes sense.

My former son-in-law was a film major at Colorado, and considered a Masters at Ohio University (my alma mater). My very strong impression after talking to him is that the director (and faculty) of the school really set the course for the type of curriculum they offer.

If the director does documentaries, then the school will be heavy on documentary production, if he/she is a feature film director, then the department will feature that.

So, it's important to know something about the school and faculty before making a decision. You would be very frustrated if you want to do movies, and your school basically teaches documentary.

Thanks Delt. USC and UCLA are my top two choices, but there is a test about film to get into one of them. I want to get a copy of that test to see what I need to know. The problem is only very basic film classes are offered here and they are all in the appreciantion type, no hands on student films. How can I take a test on something that isn't tought? Also, why do I need a test on every film made. I have very specific ideas for the films i want to make.
