And does that reputation follow that sorority from campus to campus?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Every chapter on every campus in the country has a different reputation.
We're not big on talking about reputation here, and if you really want to find out, I'm sure any collegian at Bama could tell you.
Honestly, the best thing to do (particularly at a school like Bama) is to be open minded about all chapters.

I am out of the loop now as far as knowing if girls hop around & transfer, but I know back in the late 80's it did occur from time to time! In my high school in Alabama, if a large number of girls were say going to Alabama & competing for the "top tier" sororities, one or two might head to Auburn & pledge that same sorority & then transfer down the next year.
I always found it sort of amusing. This did not occur often. What many girls from the region of Alabama I am familiar with consider the "top 2" sororities at Alabama are not both considered(by these girls or their mama's) the "top 2" at Auburn (only 1 of them is) so this was done the few times I've seen it only with the one sorority where they deemed it worth transferring.
I know my username gives my affiliation away, but I must share another amusing point. There was a girl in my sorority & by her sophmore year she told everyone she was transferring to another large SEC school in Mississippi. Her reason: A blunt retort that there were just not enough available men at Alabama to pick from a potential hubby pool! The problem:the one chapter in my sorority in the nation that did not accept tranfers was this particular school in Miss. She had the rules bent completely for her & was accepted as a transfer only because an alum she befriended's mother happened to be our national president 23 years ago :-) By the way, she did marry & I believe she met him once she transferred. I guess persistence pays off!!!

And just to confuse it even more, if we bring fraternities into the mix, even this isn't true. The founding chapter of Kappa Sigma is Zeta.
Meanwhile, the first seven chapters of Lambda Chi were (in order) Alpha, Gamma, Epsilon, Zeta, Iota, Lambda and Beta.

Maybe it's time to close the thread. Nobody's being nasty...it just seems to have fulfilled its purpose and is now wandering, lost. Poor thread!

Quota is based on the number of PNMs divided by the number of chapters and isn't a reflection of the competitiveness of a greek system. (With 2 exceptions, and Texas is not one of them.) Texas is extremely competitive, but that is due to the number of PNMs who want the same "top" chapters.

Alabama Sorority Recruitment
I am sure that anyone who had a daughter participating in Alabama recruitment will agree that it took a lot out of the mothers and especially the daughters on both sides of the recruitment process. Fox News is reporting that over 50 suspected or confirmed cases of swine flu in Tuscaloosa are believed to have started during sorority recruitment at Alabama.

Cases of the Type A flu virus — a variation of “swine flu” — have appeared in the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority house, coming only days after the end of fall recruitment, said the sorority’s president Stacy Summerville.
Five or six girls had been diagnosed, Summerville said, but the sorority’s house has not been quarantined. To keep others from getting sick, she said they have been cleaning the house with Lysol on almost every surface.

We have recruitment in two weeks, and I am terrified of this happening!

You are correct - it has to do with PNM - which compared to the size of the school is fairly small.

Psi U is the way. It was Theta, Delta, Beta, Sigma, Gamma, Zeta then Lambda. Learning Chapter roll was a royal pain.
