G&Q, I can't see the badge now
I have a long angry rant at HJ in my head, but you all know my woes with them so I will save it. They absolutely need better quality control. If anyone wants me to rage at them in person I can take badges in during Thanksgiving break and shake my fist (or have sigmagirl2000 do it!)

Not so much. The HTML img tag is malformed - can't tell you why, just telling you what I see off-the-cuff as a web designer. Try uploading the picture to somewhere like photobucket and then link from there.

I was looking up something else, and found these vintage Alpha Delta Pi pins:
Opals with Emerald points, 1956
The old "standard size" (20 places for gems): Opals with Diamond points, Opal Guard, no year but had to be prior to 1990
Diamonds, "miniature" size (now the standard size), 1966

Note how this one has a more "rounded" black diamond, and is the old standard size (room for 20 gems). LOVE the COA guard!
I would give up (almost) all of my Alpha Delta Pi pins for this baby: One of the original Adelphean Badges. This would roughly fit in the palm of one's hand (3-4"?), pre-1906.
And in the spirit of being panhellenic, here's a lovely AOII one:

You've made be LOL for the first time in day! Bless you, Panhellenic Sister!
This doesn't have the bling of pins and badges, but is an interesting part of history - Alpha Delta Pi Christmas Seals!

I typed this reply last night and meant to post it, but apparently forgot and so it was the first thing I saw when I opened my computer.
Honeychile, you and I must have been on the same brain wave today--I was browsing badges on pinterest and saw almost all those ADPi badges today!
I also saw these...
Apparently this is an Alpha Delta Pi Grand Council badge, made of white gold with a double crown border of aquamarines and a lion guard
And this is the Alpha Delta Pi International President badge, with a double crown border of diamonds and a gavel guard that looks as though it also has diamonds in it
They look so sparkly... *swoon*
Are any of these badges passed down (from GC member to GC member, from IP to IP) or do new ones get made at the beginning of each tenure?
I also saw these...which seem to have much pointier sides than the current badges! I really like the pointy sides. I also love the pearl and turquoise combination!
From what you were saying in your post though, the enamel diamond on the ADPi badge has gotten smaller over time for the newer standard badges? Is there a larger option like there is for Theta? If I remember correctly, they have a smaller and a larger size.

Such lovely Badges. I have a all pearl Badge in my collection that is made up of all the GLOs on my campus, Pitt. State Univ,Ks when I started my local Beta Chi / L X A in 1965. These will go to my chapter for historical purposes.
How I wish ADPi would come back!!

Yes, the ADPi badge has changed in size over time. There used to be two options for badge size, the "standard" option which had four stones in between each point and the "miniature" option which had three. Now all badges are the "miniature" size, but the enamel has gotten larger.
If you compare the opal one to the two farthest right that are new, they have the same amount of stones but the enamel is different sized. The stones are much larger on the new one because they're synthetic and not expensive opals.
Our former International President who was initiated into my chapter is coming to talk to us after chapter next week so I'll see if she still has the bling badge then!

The Grand Council badges shown are not the current ones they use now. I think they're fantastic - you have to see them in person to really appreciate exactly how big those diamonds are!
The current Grand Council gets replicas of the Adelphean badge, and I'm fairly certain that they get to keep them after their term is over. I'll ask to make sure.
I am loving the pointy badge, both for the color combination and the style! Do you know what year it was made? LOVE!
Y'all, one of the reason I started collecting pins was that I found it fascinating how different the pins were from year to year! I have five-six of the same pin - all with pearls and sapphires, all within 15 years of initiation date, and they have such subtle differences. If I ever get settled, I plan to do a major display of them.
Clemsongirl, what is the black ribbon with the pearl? I know that different chapters use the pearls, gold ball, and lion for different reasons, but I'd love to hear yours.

Theta's badge is beautiful either way, but I wish they would keep making Dyer badges as an option, and I'm not even a Theta, so, I can only imagine how they feel!

The ribbon was just put in the center of the box as decoration, and the pearl came with one of the badges I rescued online. Once I'd earned membership in the Adelphean Society-over a 3.5 GPA for that semester and at least junior standing-I took the pearl off the ribbon and put it on my personal badge. I now have the 1851 Circle membership dangle, the property manager dangle and the pearl on my badge.

Congratulations! I know a Sigma Delta Tau who had all of her dangles (and she had a TON of them!) soldered onto the chain, so that when she wore her pin, all of the dangles didn't go into a big bunch at the bottom. Some day, I will be able to afford that!

The pinterest post that I found said it was from 1938. It's beautiful
Thank you for the rest of the info, honeychile! I always love your photos and badge information. I'm sure it's very special for the Grand Council to get replicas of Adelphean badges. I'm sure the ADPis who get to wear them cherish them dearly.

Thanks for the info clemsongirl! It's very interesting! Please take photos when the former International President comes to visit. We'd love to see her badge.
