Dot the Mascot!

Hi ladies of ASA,

I was browsing your website today, and I saw that you have a really cute new national mascot. I think it's a great choice and really cute! Congrats on that. I was just wondering for some of the GC ASAs takes on the mascot. One thing that occurred to me is that the new mascot is obviously going to mean the ouster or at the very least de-emphasis on the local mascots that ASA chapters had before. As an outsider I think it's awesome and the value of branding ASA with a national mascot is pretty obvious, but I was wondering what alums take on it was in more detail.

We have some older chapters that IMO are going to give up their local mascots when pigs fly. They might merge them with Dot. I don't see anything wrong with that, as for the ones I'm thinking of, their mascot is a vital part of their image and presence on campus.

The best thing about it is now there won't be any more confusion - this IS our national mascot. Over the years there have been questions about what's official and what isn't.

As far as ASA paraphernalia, it's been hard to get anything but ladybugs in the last 10 years (i.e. I haven't seen an ASA/ Raggedy Ann item for forever) so I think that'll work out fine.

I prefer Raggedy Ann....but I don't dislike ladybugs.
I'm glad Dot's cute! I've seen some scurry-lookin' ladybugs before! lol
I'm also excited that now all chapters have a common mascot to unite us all.

Dot the mascot is beyond adorable. Dot the mascot costume, was the ugliest thing ever, bar none. We talked about this after the announcement was made, because as 33girl said, some of our older chapters will never give up their local mascots/symbols. They basically will have a local and a national mascot. I'm glad they finally did this because it was starting to annoy me that we have four symbols, but the greek companies always made ladybug stuff for us. At least now this way it's official and has meaning.

Our symbols are beautiful and I love them...but it is hard to make/find a huggable palm tree or Phoenix. (Unless you count Stefano DiMera, LOL)

I think she's cute. She really hammed it up during the balloon ride. Here's the link with her picture http://www.alphasigmaalpha.org/feeds/1/feed_items/34

I don't think that Emporia will give up their apples either and Raggedy Ann will always have a special place in many an Alpha Sig's heart, but I think it's great that there will be one unified mascot. I, for one, will not give up my Raggedy Ann Christmas ornament collection. I just may have to add a few ladybugs to the collection now though.

Hahaha!
Never thought of that. I like the swirls. They give her personality.

The ASA's love her and her swirly dots, so that's all that matters.
