At the Ethnic Food Fair in Balboa Park today, I saw a girl wearing a Sigma Phi Epsilon philanthropy shirt (from this year's Philanthropy Week event at USD) - it looked like one of my advisees, but I didn't get a chance to make sure of it

decals, tags, etc

Way back when, in enema and warm milk land, it was almost
"de rigeur" to have greek letters on the right front (passenger side) and often mid-point on rear window. Letters only for one
who was a pledge, crest right above that when initiated, often
the college, too. At Emporia, we likely had 75 cars, Sig Ep same,
Phi Sig 20, Sig Tau 40, AKL 50 plus the five sororities. That's a
heckeva lot of recognition. At KU even more other than the Betas
who rejected any identification, even badges 'cept formal doins.
The decals disappeared, some states outlawed decals on windshields..it was not until some what recently when sweat shirts and tee shirts became plentiful that we saw any GLO i.d.
Rarely do I see the windshield ones today. Saved me two tickets
for speeding (ll5 and 95) when stopped by a TKE cop.....
At any rate, wear yourself proud...

Ended up in Oakland, land of Pitt, CMU, Carlow, and Chatham colleges/universities today, and saw a Kappa Delta window sticker - with Ohio plates. It was parked in front of the Pitt Law School, which my mother swears looks like a parking garage! I told her that's where Forbes Field was, her answer? "Surely a pity."

You have 2 COLLEGE AGE MALES in your church nursery?? That seems kinda weird. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's unusual.

Some ministry programs require teaching in, observation of, and or helping out with, all age groups. My cousin's youth ministry program was one that had such a requirement.

Hmmm... I think I like that requirement.

Was on eBay as usual and saw some badges for Beta Sigma Phi.

They looked like sorority badges so I google'd the group and it turns out they are a "international women's friendship network." I had never heard of them before, but I guess there is a chapter in San Diego where I live.

They do have a forum on GreekChat. Not sure how many "non-collegiate GLOs" (phrase used by a member on a post) exist today but I think this is pretty interesting. Any Beta Sigma Phi sisters reading this? What's your group like?

Here is their description:
Beta Sigma Phi is an international women's friendship network. It also provides educational programs to its members and opportunities for service to others. We are women of all ages, interests, and educational and economic backgrounds, and are the largest organization of our kind in the world.

www.betasigmaphi.org

I sent an email to their HQ to let them know that their badges were on eBay...maybe someone can rescue them.

On the way to work my Jaycee chapter's Bingo tonight, I was behind a car with a Phi Beta Sigma license plate holder.

We don't have this requirment, but I've noticed the last two years our director has hired a few of the young men to help in the nursery. They have been really good with the little boys, especially ages 2-6. Even though it is unusual, it is helpful, and the hours are pretty good--Sundays 8:30-noon and an occasional Wednesday night. All nursery workers have a substantial amount of training to go through and go through a federal background check as well, as per our dicocese regulations for ANYONE who works with children under the age of 18.

Yep...Beta Sigma Phi is pretty well represented on Greekchat! It's a great organization with many chapters around the globe and nearly 200,000 initiated sisters. Beta sisters work hard to serve the community, socialize, and provide educational programming. We celebrated our 75th birthday on April 30!!

Come visit our forum some time.

ThetaSis2GphiB,

Erica and I are from the same chapter, after both forming chapters elsewhere! (mine also in PA, hers in MA) We are now co-founders of PA Nu Iota. There are some collegiate chapters of BSP - one in Flint Michigan and one in Kansas City (or somewhere in Missouri)

BSP is a great organization especially if you want to be involved in your community and still have that greek feeling when you are alumna and there is not an alumnae group close by!

check our our website:
www.geocities.com/pghbsp

Greek orgs represented in our chapter:
Phi Sigma Sigma, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Tau Beta Sigma (honorary)

I saw my own letters for the first time outside of a sorority-related event (e.g. recruitment, convention, IRD, etc...). I'm on vacation in NYC and saw a girl wearing an AGD/TKE fundraiser shirt. I'm not sure if the girl is an Alpha Gam or not (she could be wearing her boyfriend's shirt).
