Arizona Alumnae Panhellenic

There appear to be three Alumnae Panhellenics in Arizona:
Tucson, Salt River, and Phoenix

The Phoenix Alumnae Panhellenic Association website has a lot of great content including information on Registering for Recruitment and getting Recruitment Recommendations - http://www.phoenixpanhellenic.org/recruitment.html

Excerpt from their site:

What is a recommendation and is it needed?
Answer:
A recommendation is similar to a job reference. It is a form written by a sorority alumna (graduate) to introduce you to a sorority chapter. An alumna wishing to write a reference does not need to be a graduate of the college you will attend. She only needs to be a member of a sorority with a chapter on that campus. The recommendation provides a means of introduction and does not guarantee an invitation to membership from that sorority. It is the responsibility of the sorority alumna who is completing the form to obtain, complete and submit it in the manner and time required by her group.

There are NPC sororities on the campuses of the following Arizona universities:

The Chicago Alumnae Panhellenic (CAP) is one of the most well represented alumnae panhellenics in the Midwest region. CAP was established in June 2001 and chartered by the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) in May 2002. The purpose of the Chicago Alumnae Panhellenic is twofold:
1. To inform collegiate women about the 26 NPC organizations and NPC's membership process.
2. To provide a networking system for alumnae women in the Chicago area.

According to their website, CAP is missing representatives from Alpha Epsilon Phi, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Sigma Delta Tau --- Do you know someone in the Chicago area who is an alumna of one of these "missing" organizations? If so, kindly forward her contact information to chicagopanhellenic@yahoo.com

The Elmhurst Panhellenic also has a website - http://www.elmhurstpanhellenic.org/

There are three in Georgia according to the NPC site (and they all have websites ):

Atlanta Southern Crescent - http://www.southerncrescentalumpanhel.org/
Atlanta - http://www.atlantapanhellenic.org/
Northeast Georgia - http://www.negapc.org/

Southern Crescent looks active, but Northeast Georgia's site is somewhat out of date.

Atlanta Southern Crescent is holding an info session:

March and April 2005; place and time TBA
We will hold sorority information sessions in Peachtree City and Newnan this year to educate high school senior girls about recruitment (Rush) and how our association will help them get needed recommendations. Dates will be set so as not to interfere with vacation schedules and prom dates. Recommendation writers for the sororities in ASCAPA are encouraged to attend so they can meet the girls they will be writing about.

Recruitment Information Meeting for High School Seniors and Their Moms
Saturday, May 7, 2005, 11:00 A.M.
LSUS University Center Ballroom

Who should attend?
Anyone interested in learning more about sororities and the recruitment process. Mothers are encouraged to attend even if her daughter cannot.

What will be discussed?
We will discuss the recruitment process (formerly known as "rush"), recommendations, benefits of sisterhood, etc.

Why attend this meeting?
You can get firsthand information about recruitment and have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You will also be able to submit information about yourself to alumnae who will be writing recommendations for their sororities.

What should I bring?
Bring with you personal information, such as grade point average, grade point scale, rank in class, number in senior class, honors and activities.

What else do I need to do?
Prepare a detailed resume (sample in Recruitment Information Booklet) listing your honors, activities and academic standing. Make several copies to give to alumnae who will be writing recommendations. Have photographs for each copy.

Register for recruitment with the Panhellenic office at the college or university you've chosen. You cannot participate in recruitment unless you do so. Look at the website of the school you have chosen and make note of their requirements and deadlines.

Begin networking with family and friends to let them know about your plans to participate in sorority recruitment.

Overlake had about 40 people I would say (outside of the Panhel people) and it was quite good. I had never been to one so I had no idea what to expect. Most of the conversation was about Univ of WA (college Panhel reps) but we had alumnae from WSU and I was there from UPS. I was glad I was there, since recruitment is SO different there.

We did have one lady (who showed up late and didn't sign in) who specifically brought up hazing. I personally think she just saw the thing advertised and decided to come make a statement. But the Panhel advisor from UW also seemed to expect the question and had a good response prepared.

One PNM had some questions that were close to asking about MS. She asked if everyone was guaranteed a bid and what the sororities look for in new members.

One person actually asked if you went through rush every year (as in had to rerush each year after you got in).

I think that is a valid concern. I always have girls ask me how likely they are to get a bid. I try to be honest but I never know for sure.

Obviously I don't know specifically what each sorority looks for, when girls ask me that, I try to just answer in general terms. I tell them sororities want girls who are involved, have good grades, and friendly personalities.

Alabama Alumnae Panhellenics

Alabama has 4 Alumnae Panhellenics - Etowah County, Huntsville, Montgomery, and Walker County
I don't believe they have websites, so I can't find any info sessions.

However, if you are interested in Alabama, Panhellenic Weekend may be a good option --

April 16, 2005
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
http://www.bama.ua.edu/~npc/panhellenicweekend.htm

We would like to invite you to attend Panhellenic Weekend 2005! Come learn about the opportunities available to you at UA through Greek life. We will walk you through registration, tell you what to expect from the week of recruitment, and host a “What to Wear” fashion show that morning, and then you'll get the chance to interact with sorority members during house tours that afternoon. This weekend should give you a taste of sorority life and all that it has to offer!

Sorority Information Meeting at UTA in University Center's Carlisle Suite.
Teens invited to sorority Q&A session
By Angie Summers
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Legacy. Panhellenic. Sounds like a foreign language, and I haven't even mentioned the Greek alphabet yet.

The Arlington Area Alumnae Panhellenic, an umbrella group for national sororities, will provide a quick lesson in sororities for high school senior girls and their mothers or fathers during an information session at 10 a.m. April 9 in the Carlisle Suite at the University of Texas at Arlington's E.H. Hereford University Center.

Kristin Richardson, panhellenic president, said attendees will learn how to register for rush -- now called "member recruitment"-- and learn other lingo surrounding sororities.

A sorority -- a social and service organization for college women -- is based upon mutual interests and stresses high academic achievement, social activities and community service. Rushees are those interested in joining a sorority, whereas a legacy is a rushee whose mother or sister has been a member of a sorority.

Alumnae from a variety of sororities throughout the nation will be there to answer questions.

Reservations are not necessary. Call Sallie Krall at (972) 293-0546 or via e-mail to krallkns@aol.com for more information. You can also visit the group's Web site at www.arlington-panhellenic.org for details.

Alabama - Greek Meet: Panhellenic Association of Huntsville and Madison County

Greek Meet: Panhellenic Association of Huntsville and Madison County

High school graduation is fast approaching for this year's crop of seniors, and many of them are making plans to attend college in the fall. The Panhellenic Association of Huntsville and Madison County wants local senior girls to be aware of the opportunities available to them as members of Greek sororities, and will hold a Greek Meet on Sunday and Monday for that purpose.

Panhellenic member Gale Fuller will speak on a range of topics relating to Greek life on campus beginning with rush.

How the recruitment process works, what to wear during recruitment, how to choose the sorority that is right for you, costs and what you can expect from sorority life are questions that college-bound girls are likely to have, so Panhellenic encourages girls to seek Greek experiences by learning more about sororities beforehand.

Gale will also share information about recruitment at several colleges and universities in the Southeast. Representatives from 16 national Panhellenic sororities will be on hand to answer questions.

The event will take place at the Heritage Bank community room, 4245 Balmoral Drive, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday.

The event is free, and dress is casual. For more information, call Kitty Pettus-Hinds at 533-2770.
