Chapter backs out of CU-Boulder's new fraternity plan

I know we had previous discussions RE: UC-Boulder IFC not being recognized by the university. Seems that administartors want to invite individual fraternities to affiliate directly with CU-Boulder instead of the independent IFC.

UC-Boulder has learned the hard way what can happen when schools attempt to impose draconian measures on fraternities. We can always simply opt-out of University management and exercise our rights of peaceful assembly and the University can lose any control it thought it had. Good for the IFC community sticking to its guns.

That's my sorority sister bein' all COO.

It sounds like the university wants to pick and choose the fraternities they find "suitable" - kind of like a membership review for a chapter - and we all know how badly those can backfire.

FTA, the university wants to force deferred recruitment, live-in "advisers," and other such nonsense someone at some point probably told them would reduce risk.

From a legal standpoint, I don't understand why the University is forcing those things--especially live-in advisers. The more control the universities want to exert on fraternities, the more possible it is the university or its employees could be found to have done something negligent.
