My original 30+-year-old pearl badge with guard, along with a plain badge almost as old, was stolen at a hotel. I've kept watch on eBay over the years, but they've never surfaced. They were probably melted for the gold.
I keep hoping, but no luck. I've replaced them, but they're not quite the same.

My beautiful original badge was stolen - AT CONVENTION - in 1988. Never turned up. I've replaced it twice - one for my ring, one to wear - but I miss MY badge.

I keep my badge along with my four other rescue badges locked in a safe in my house along with my other jewelry that I'm not wearing... I would be so upset if any of them were stolen! So sorry this happened to you, Lake.

Put on you F B site and and make sure you have pix of it (I HOPE) front and back if engraving marks of any kind. Shout it to the sky and all internet contacts you have.

I know my first Badge is very special to me!! White gold, pearls in the crescent, sapphires in the Lambda. If it was stolen, I would go bug nuts!!!!!!

Good luck sweety!!!!

I've always wondered why Greek pins got stolen, aside from collectors or anti Greek troublemakers. Can they really be sold or pawned for significant "meltdown" value? I remember seeing a lot of gold and jewel encrusted pins and badges in my time, but had always figured they were too small to be melted or picked apart to be worth anyone's time. But maybe I'm way off base... I always thought Greek pins were items where the sentimental worth far far exceeds the items material worth.

Good luck tracking down your badge! I hope it turns up somewhere soon.

Today, gold is worth $40.54 a gram, or $1,420 an ounce. Steal a handful of gold items, and you might get enough to buy a hit of meth. I'm sure you've seen ads from pawn shops and jewelry stores touting how they'll buy gold.
Of course, prices have been much higher. Gold is worth more when times are bad and people are scared.

I have my MIL's Delta Zeta badge (gold with pearls and what looks like a diamond) and guard from her Southern Methodist U. chapter. I looked, but that chapter was closed long ago. She graduated in 1940, but I don't know if the badge was from that era or later.

I see them on ebay, but that feels kind of strange. OTOH, keeping it a box is not useful.

Lupine, if there are no girls in the family who might pledge DZ, please send it back to DZ headquarters. I have stipulated to my family that if my daughter( who is also my sorority sister) doesn't want it and my brand new granddaughter ( or any future granddaughters) doesn't/don't pledge Zeta, my badge should be sent back to our headquarters.
