Appalachian Greeks

Hi,

I'm Aerial. I found this board while searching for general info on becoming Greek. I want to rush into a sorority next semester- I'll be a freshman at App State University.

Does anyone know anything about the Greeks there?? What sororities are the ones to consider joining?

~Aerial

This thread has a lot of good advice about recruitment in general, I suggest reading it:

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=54403

Also, the App State greek life site has all the important info:

http://greeks.appstate.edu/index.php?&MMN_position=1:1

http://greeks.appstate.edu/index.php...age&PAGE_id=23

In recruitment, it is in your best interest to consider all of the sororities (you will meet members from all of them). I would be as open minded as possble to all of them, since you never know which ones will/won't invite you back each round.

Yeah I mean I suppose I want to look into them all but I want to know which ones to avoid/which ones to go for all the way...... A close friend of mine was in a sorority at a Southern school and found out later a majority of the sisters were cokeheads. She dropped out before initiation and ended up joining a nicer, less popular group. I want to avoid this kind of situation

Who to "avoid/go for" is going to vary depending on who you ask. Honestly, we like to tell people to wait until they get to recruitment to form their OWN opinions. Reason: opinions are subjective and are not always based in fact.

For example, if I were to tell you that a sorority at App was full of druggies, how do you know that that's even true? How do you know that I'm not just saying that because I don't like a girl in that sorority or because I didn't get a bid there?

So you could potentially rule out a sorority based on a rumor or hearsay that's not even true. You will find out PLENTY about the sororities during recruitment from the other girls that are rushing.

And really, if a sorority is full of girls that do drugs, we aren't going to know that here. That's not really something you would know unless you were actually in the sorority.

With such an unusual name (and unusual spelling...), you'd best use major discretion here. I would be 99.9% certain that you would be the only girl named Aerial at App State

Aerial's actually my middle name but thanks for the advice... And I just found out through my mother that I am a legacy to a sorority- my Grandmother joined one. I am just not sure as to which one, yet.

Don't forget that Alpha Omicron Pi will be colonizing its newest chapter at Appalachian State in the fall!

Everyone's given excellent advice so far. Be willing to consider it at least.

Keep in mind that being a legacy does not guarantee you a bid. Depending on the organization, the PNM is extended "courtesies", but still no guarantee. Do you even know if your grandmother's sorority is at Appalachian State?

And the chapters there will most likely know your middle name. Just be careful, there have been several people lately that ask for information over the internet and have said uneducated things that have ruined their chance at getting a bid into a sorority.
