I think I prefer Christmas Carols to Christmas songs.

My all time favourite is We three Kings, of Orient are.

Don't know if it's my favorite, but it's among them:

"This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway ('06).

Gloria In Excelsis Deo - ever since I had to sing it in the grammar school Christmas choir.

This is not meant as a snide comment but rather as an actual question. Do you mean "Angels We Have Heard On High"? or another carol incorporating the words "Gloria In Excelsis Deo"?

You are right, it is "Angels We Have Heard On High." I have never called it anything but "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" which is actually the chorus part.

Since I revived the "Least Favorite Carol" thread, I felt I should bump this too!

Mine is still Carol of the Birds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE0yEf7O8Dk

but there are 2 new favorites:

Third Day's "Do you Hear What I hear?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9ioc0gTnH0

and

Casting Crowns' "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7670CXvPX0

I may have said this before, but when I was a child, I thought the choir was singing, "O-re-o! Jesus loves me be-st!". I loved the music but thought the words were really conceited!

I'm one of those unfortunate people who, while I so rarely cry, will cry at beautiful music. My personal favorite Christmas CD is Twila Paris' It's the Thought with the following tracks:

1. Midwinter
2. Alleluia, Christ Is Born
3. Glory to God (The Angels Song)
4. Away in a Manger
5. White Christmas/Whiter Than Snow
6. It's the Thought
7. I Saw Three Ships
8. This World
9. Down in Yon Forest
10. O Holy Night
11. Hallelujah Chorus
12. Wandering Pilgrim

If you ever catch me listening to it, feel free to sit down and cry with me, or mock me. It's 11 years old, and I still love it!

I couldn't find Twila Paris' version on YouTube, but here's Joan Baez singing Down in Yon Forest (Twila's version segues into O Holy Night):

Did anyone else ever see Young Messiah, about 8-10 years ago?

The Little Drummer Boy, sung by a sweet two-year-old who sings the lyrics as: "Cola Toe Lee, Rum Pah Pum Pum".

I think my favorite is "Carol of the Bells".

I love pretty much all traditional Christmas carols. Silent Night, O Holy Night, Adeste Fideles, you name it.

Also, I recently had the opportunity to sing in the choir in a performance of Handel's Messiah, so I'm going to add "For Unto Us A Child Is Born" to the list. It's a PITA to sing, with those long runs on the word "born" - but it sounds so awesome.

Rachel Hale, an AST who appeared on American Idol, just came out with her latest song. This might be the only Christmas song that I actually kind of enjoy!

"Can You Hear the Sound (of Christmas)"

I go back and forth between "What Child is This" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" as my all-time faves. It really depends who's performing it.
