I'm so glad there's a Madison girl on this board!
Glitter is right -- I go to the UW. I rushed last year as a sophomore transfer student, so I know a little bit about the chances of upperclassmen getting bids.
The good news is that it's definitely not impossible to get a bid as a junior. There were a couple of girls in my pledge class who were juniors, and I know other sororities took them too. The bad news is that being a junior does hurt your chances, to some extent, and that it's getting harder to get in as a junior every year. The UW doesn't have a separate quota for juniors, so those who do rush are usually cut by at least a couple houses for it.
If you're looking to make it into one of the "top" groups, you probably won't as a junior. But if your goal isn't that ambitious, and you just want to make it into a sorority you like, you can probably find a home here.
I would recommend doing everything you can to counteract the "stigma" of being a junior. If you're not going to graduate on time (VERY common here at the UW
), make sure you mention that to the girls that are rushing you. If you can get recommendations for any groups, do it. And if you're cut heavily, you might find it easier to get in as an upperclass(wo)man via COB or spring rush. For some reason, it's easy to fall through the cracks during UW rush.
The Greek system has a new website at
www.uwgreek.com if you haven't seen it yet.
Oh, and please share your rush story with us on the board -- I know we'd all love to hear it. Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll answer them as best as I can. Since we have rules about contact with PNMs, I may not be able to tell you what you want to know, but I'll answer the things I can.
