I have to bump this oldie (but goodie!).
Just found out my beautiful Great Aunt (who has lived in Florida since she got married 50 some years ago) is an Alpha Chi Omega! She was also a SAE "beauty queen", which is how she met her husband who died too young.
Her granddaughter (my mom's first cousins daughter) is a Theta Phi Alpha who graduated from St Leo University.
My sister (DG) and I are happy to hear of other greeks in out family! Until now, almost all my other greek family connections have been on my husbands side. Yay!
So now it's:
Me - Theta
My sister - Delta Gamma
Our first cousin - Pi Beta Phi
Great Aunt - Alpha Chi Omega
Great Uncle (Whom I never met) - Sigma Alpha Epsilon
Hubby's cousin #1 - Tau Beta Sigma and I think SAI
Hubby's cousins #2 & #3 - Zeta Pi Lambda (local sorority at Capital University, they chose not to affiliate with ASA when the local got absorbed a year or so ago).
Hubby's cousin #4 - Kappa Phi Omega (local sorority at Otterbein)
Hubby's cousin #5 - Alpha Omicron Pi

It seems to just be me (Alpha Gamma Delta) and my brother (Theta Chi). My dad pledged Tau Kappa Epsilon, but dropped due to financial reasons. I kind of secretly think he wishes he was able to initiate and that's why he's extremely supportive of my involvement in Greek life.
I also realize now that a decent amount of my immediate family - my mom as well as all four grandparents - didn't receive a college education. My (biological) uncles as well as my other aunt did, as well as their kids and my siblings. I think it kind of does help me appreciate mine a little bit more, as difficult and frustrating classes can be.

Were they in a local? If so, did they choose not to get initiated into the national group?

I'm a KD
Niece is a KAT
My dad was a Kappa Rho (a Jewish founded national fraternity) which was either absorbed by another fraternity or just disbanded in the '50s. I have not been able to trace any info. Dad never talks about his time in the frat any more than he will talk about his time in the Army.

My mom said there were social clubs when she was at Baylor, but wasn't in one. No idea about my grandmother (passed). I would have to look up the years attended & find out if there were any local sororities there then.
When my mom was at Baylor, there were room checks on Sundays to make sure all students were at church and random checks to make sure you were NOT hiding alcohol in your room. She said they would sanitize a 10-0-6 (face astringent) bottle & fill it with rum (as it was the same color) so they could "display" the bottle on their bookshelf, in plain site.

I know, for instance, the Pi Alpha Lambda (PALs) that became Chi Omega at Baylor, went back to at least the 1930s.
