Rushing as a Junior at UCF. Advice, tips? :)

I am transferring to UCF in the Fall 2011 and am reallly wanting to rush a sorority. I have some worries/concerns though since I am going to be a junior. I am currently at FSU and always wanted to rush but with my major (Nursing) I didn't think I'd have the time for my studies. I didn't get accepted to Nursing school so I changed my major and now feel like I have the time to be in a sorority! I have always felt like a part of my college experience has been missing not being a part of one. Given that I will be older rushing I am getting some recs from alum family and friends. I have a pretty good GPA, around a 3.3. I'm pretty personable and easy to get along with.

I'm just looking for any opinions, advice on what my chances are and what I should do if I do decide to go ahead and rush! I'm super excited about the idea of being in a sorority, I hope I can get a bid, even as a junior.

Thanks !!

Unfortunately, even if any GCers knew you personally they could not tell you your chances of getting in. Get your recs and resume in place and be willing to accept that last sorority on your list (short of seriously hating them of course). You will be cut heavily so don't take it too personally, but there's always a chance it could work out for you.

There is a sorority coming onto campus in the fall which will happen after formal recruitment. Expansions are also extremely competitive, but they like to bring in a mix of all 4 years, so your junior standing should (if I understand this correctly) only put you up against other juniors. But I can't state clearly enough, do NOT consider this your safety option. If you read back over the Florida State Alpha Phi expansion, I think you'll get an idea of how rough it was.

Good luck!

krissymc, if you know any sorority members at UCF be sure to let them know that you will be rushing in the fall. they could give you suggestions on appropriate outfits, conversation topics, etc. as long as they are talking about rush in general, not their sorority in particular, it should be okay.

you should get recs. for every sorority at UCF, and as dubaisis suggested, keep an open mind and give each chapter a sincere chance. there is lots of good general information about rush on greekchat and there a several threads about UCF specifically. good luck!
