I took myself out to dinner for my husband's birthday. (He's out of town. We celebrated his birthday last weekend.)
Baked oysters prepared 3 ways, a chicken sandwich (which fell apart as soon as I picked it up, as the bun was soggy), and a beer flight.
And the Saints won.

Homemade french onion soup from a local eatery. They only serve homemade soups during winter months.

Holiday party at my apartment building tonight! Jambalaya, meatballs, fettuccine and shrimp, bacon-wrapped shrimp, ham-and-cheese sandwiches, cookies and petits fours for dessert, and beer and wine. Met a few of my fellow residents too.
One thing about the food in New Orleans: While the food is awesome, it is all but impossible to stick to most dietary restrictions. If you keep kosher or are a vegetarian, you're pretty much scrod. The one exception I've seen is gluten-free. One of my coworkers has celiac disease, and, although she may find herself limited to one or two options at a restaurant where the menu has more than a dozen main course options, she seems always to be able to find something.

Last night, my daughter and her boyfriend made a highly labor intensive Italian dish called "Il Timpano." The whole process took about 5 hours and we ate at 9:10 pm.
Of course, we had to "ooooh" and "aaah" about it, and it was good, but to tell you the truth, I don't think it was worth the time and effort involved.
Apparently, it's from a movie. It's kind of like lasagna inside a pastry crust.
Sorry that image is so big.
However, its size realistically represents the amount of effort and accompanying cooking tension going on in our kitchen yesterday.
