Lavalier her when you're ready to do it; I've never heard of graduation being a factor on the timing.

Don't rush something because you feel like it's expected. You should do it because you want to and it feels like the right time for you.

Lavaliering is similar to giving a girl your class ring when you are in HS-it's like formally announcing that you are going steady. It's not that big a commitment in the grand scheme of things. Pinning your girlfriend (giving her your fraternity badge to wear) is like being pre-engaged, and giving her an engagement ring is.....you guessed it, getting engaged. It sounds like you are putting more significance on lavaliering than is necessary.

At some campuses, "pinning" doesn't happen and lavaliering is considered pre-engagement. So depending on the campus, it can be viewed as a pretty serious commitment.

Doesn't she ever plan to come back to visit? I've seen plenty of alumnae have candle passings at formals. AFAIK it's not a closed ritual for any groups (if I'm wrong, please correct me).

To clarify: has she graduated already, or is she graduating at the end of the fall 2014 semester, or at the end of the spring 2015 semester? If it's one of the latter two, I don't know what the problem is. Lavalier her when you're ready.

And I agree with G & Q that some campuses don't pin as much as others.

Alright thanks. All I needed to hear was a few people to say to wait. Believe me, I want to lavalier her, not because it's expected. Certainly not. She will be visiting so I guess it'll be fine. I only asked because my big bro just lavaliered his girlfriend so it's like in her head now and I know she wants to be as much as I want to give her one. But I will wait. And by the way, at my school, it is a pretty big deal and we don't do pinning so this is the thing you do. Thanks for all the replies though.

Sounds to me like he doesn't want his fraternity brothers to celebrate the lavaliering. Must get pretty out of hand.

Nah, I'll still get the celebration. I meant lavaliering before I graduate, not after I graduate.
