chi-o_cat: I'm not sure why they had us do it. I think it's possible that some cuts were made between rounds 3 and 4, but if so they were VERY, VERY few.

Okay, people... the final installation of my recruitment journey, to end the mystery of the bid card that Immature Ditzy Girl didn't eat even though it would've made for a really interesting story.

THE DAY AFTER BID DAY...

The next day I saw all the girls I had rushed with wearing their bid day shirts, Steve Madden and Jack Rogers and Sperry's alike. (I heard that Converse had only gotten ONE girl from formal recruitment but later snap bid/COR'ed a bunch more girls.) I just felt so dejected that entire day, even though I was trying to stay positive and just move on. I found myself in line with one of the new Sperry's in her bid day shirt. We were chatting a little -- we had met up at an accepted students event the spring before we came -- and it was so hard to carry on conversation while my eyes were constantly drawn to her navy blue shirt.

After a long day of fake smiling, I found myself in my room, exhausted, doing some physics homework online. My facebook tab was open as I worked, and at some point I took a break and found a message: it was K from Sperry's. "I'm so sorry to hear about what happened, and a bunch of us were sad to see you weren't at bid day… be in your room at 5PM!"

No. There was no way. It couldn't be happening. I started feeling so anxious and shaky and excited and hopeful, I don't know how my body contained all those nerves.

Sure enough, at 5:02pm, I heard a multitude of knocks at my door. I opened it to reveal over half a dozen Sperry's, all in their bid day shirts, smiling and giggling, with K holding out…

MY OFFICIAL BID TO ALPHA GAMMA DELTA!!!

After all the heartache, it was definitely worth it. I met up with our VP recruitment to officially sign my bid the next afternoon. (Once a snap or COR bid is offered, the NM has 24 hours to accept and sign. Not sure if this is standard NPC procedure.) Mr. Greek Dean was very happy to see me back (bid had to be signed in his presence).

The other "bid day reject" (the girl who knew what was happening) ended up joining Alpha Gam; she was a sophomore who knew a lot of the sisters and I'm pretty sure she also suicide-bid for them as well. Surprisingly, I ended up becoming fairly close to Immature Ditzy Girl after our first semester when she became… a little less immature and ditzy. Also… Fraternity Brother's sister ended up joining Jack Rogers. The rumor was that she had been so confident in her spot that she was texting during her parties.

Honestly, I don't regret my decision to suicide-bid Alpha Gamma Delta. Yeah, I definitely had my doubts after that rejection whether or not I was meant to "GO GREEK!" and all that hooplah. But it taught me two lessons -- the obvious first one being the typical "rejection sucks and everyone goes through it, it's not the end of the world." The second? To always remember what's important to YOU. It was more important to me to be in Alpha Gamma Delta in the end than it was to be a sorority girl -- especially in a small Greek system where each chapter had distinctly different personalities.

On a side note: I find Sperry's really comfortable and wear mine frequently, which was part of the reason I chose them to describe the house I ended up in!

My only hope is that this year bid day is handled differently, which I think it may be: with recruitment on the 12th - 16th and only four parties. It was legitimately embarrassing to be singled out in a room full of girls that, for the most part, knew exactly why we were being called out.

Oh, and a great new member class of squirrels with an awesome sis-daughter for me to spoil with lots of gifts and letters and Starbucks and love!

So that is my story of how I became an Alpha Gam. THE END!
