First in line were the 2 Rho Chis, looking really put out as they clutched their clipboards. A few feet away, in the front of the line, were the 2 guys...and this was classic. They were definitely sporting "what not to wear" outfits...ugly wigs, elbow purses like Queen Elizabeth, floral house dresses, and sensible pumps. One had a straw hat with a flower on the brim, and their make-up left a lot to be desired...especially the big, round, pink circles of blush on each cheek. The PNMs were lined up a safe distance down the sidewalk and looked completely befuddled and even more nervous than usual. The guys, who were well-known in the Greek community, had huge smiles and were eagerly and patiently waiting.

As they came in, we paired them off with a couple of steadfast members who steered them into the TV room for conversation, instead of the living room. I'm not even sure they realized this was a "snub" because the next day the campus newspaper ran a front-page story on the whole debacle and we were really happy because we got some great PR out of the whole adventure...one of the guys was quoted as saying the "Gamma Phi Betas were the friendliest house and were the nicest to us."

This is a weird rush story worth experiencing. And those guys have an awesome story to tell. I can't believe they made it to the third round of parties without anyone stopping them! Classic.

I think Sciencewoman meant the third party of the day.

I guess that's one advantage of having fraternity and sorority rush taking place simultaneously... the guys would be too busy with fraternity rush to mess with sorority rush.

I'm kinda surprised no one picked up on them before they made it to their first party, though.

Yes, TSteven, we were the 2nd party on their schedule on the very first day of recruitment.

Now that I think about it, what are the odds that they were both placed in the same Rho Chi rotation group? This was a large ACC university with hundreds of women going through rush. Maybe they had a student worker on the inside assisting with the prank...these were both well-known guys in the Greek Community and not members of the same frat, BTW.

The sisters in the chapter I currently advise say that the recruitment registration form our Panhel uses does not ask for gender, and it only asks PNMs to sign that they have never initiated into an NPC group. I guess it should ask about IFC membership, too....

I love that story, Sciencewoman! Been seeing boys cross dress for fun since I was in 5th grade. But when my mom saw the boys dressed as girls for the fifth grade talent show, she immediately, without missing a beat, asked them whether their implants were silicone or saline. And I could see her doing that in this situation as well, given the opportunity! From these stories, I'm starting to think she gained her weird conversation coping skills through her sorority.
