I went through jewel degree last weekend, and I can't believe that I am now an alumna. Jewel degree, by the way, was an awesome ceremony.

I didn't know what to expect, but it just makes so much sense. It is a perfect capstone to a collegiate experience, and I can't wait to get involved as an alumna.

I know I rarely post on GC, but I believe we all know what May 15th means.

I find out today whether I'm having a niece or a nephew. I am so frickin excited! It will definitely make buying baby items easier, as most baby stuff is gender specific (god forbid those parents who don't want to find out). I'm waiting impatiently. Their doctor appointment is at 2:30 MST and I'm in central time. I've never been so impatient in my life. LOL. Trying to keep myself entertained.

I know I only post around twice a year - but I need to borrow your brains!! I got engaged this past new years - and we finally set a date for next September. Now that it's only a little over 12 months away I'm kind of freaking about not having prepared in the slightest. Wedding planning and budgeting tips would be appreciated!!

Congratulations!

I'm done doing all of the planning for my wedding, and it really has not been too terrible. The worst part was sorting out the guest list. I don't know where in Texas you are (or if you are even doing your wedding in Texas), but where I live it was much more cost effective to have the reception at a nice restaurant than to do it at a traditional reception venue if you plan on having table service. I don't feel particularly qualified to give advice, but if you have any questions for someone who has planned their wedding in the Dallas area, you can always PM me. Now that I think about it, I do have one more piece of advice: find a photographer you like and book him ASAP. The photographer that we booked was already starting to get his calendar filled up 16 months out.

Again, congratulations! Enjoy the planning, it can really be a lot of fun.

Thanks txpacer! I do have a photographer in mind, he's awesome and was at UNT with me, but I haven't figured out if I can afford him yet!

I left DFW a year ago and moved back home to Austin, and there's a ton of venues here that offer ceremony and reception spaces. We are thinking something slightly rustic in the hill country. My fiancé is a bit of a country boy and I'm the more modern city girl, so I'm shooting for a workable combo of our two different tastes/style preferences.

If you haven't done it, get your dress pronto. Dresses can sometimes take 6-9 months to get in (depending on the designer and what not), plus the fittings and alterations and what not.

Not that you need to do it now, but as a former bridesmaid, please don't wait until 8 weeks before your wedding to have your bridesmaids try on and order dresses. My friend did this to us. Our dresses got in like a week before the wedding and about half of us wore dresses that were too small for us, but since they came from a certain dye lot from the east coast (I lived in AZ at the time). It was a nightmare. As your wedding is next September, I would have your bridesmaids get their dresses in like May, that way if for some reason there are issues (wrong color, size, etc...) there is plenty of time to rectify the situation.

One of the first things you need to do is sit down and make a budget. Figure out what you want to spend on everything. The bridal magazines have great checklists and ideas in them.
