University of Oregon Chi Omega death
Not really sure where to put this, but this seemed like the best option. Daughter went back down to Eugene this weekend and found out this had happened. Prayers for this girl's family. As horrific as it would be to lose a child any time....on Mother's Day weekend....I just couldn't imagine.
One of the comments in our local paper was from a mother who had lost her 20 year old son from this as well. She pointed out the importance of making sure kids are vaccinated before they head off to college.

Sorry, Just realized this thread isn't community service- it is community service philanthropy. Could a moderator please move it to an appropriate spot or tell me how to move it and suggest the correct section for it. Thank you.

Oh dear. How terribly crushing. Prayers for her family and loved ones. Every few years, an article like this pops up. On another note, both of my kids had to show documentation that they had been vaccinated before they could start their freshman years, I believe they were state mandated (and in different states). Is this not SOP for most schools, especially large/state ones?

It wasn't in Oregon or Colorado. I didn't have to show for any of my universities. It was just highly encouraged to get it before I lived in the dorms.

The FSL community held a candlelight vigil this evening. It was both beautiful and heartbreaking, and the outreach of support was staggering. My thoughts and prayers to the sisters of Chi Omega.

Both of my kids were required to show proof they were vaccinated before they could move into the dorms. She was at PITT, he is here in CA
My heart goes out to the family and to all of the Chi O's.

Washington University in St. Louis lost a student to this last week. She was a freshman and a member of Alpha Phi. It's extremely sad.

My kids had the vaccine at a fairly young age. They went to summer camp and it was recommended. My dd got it on the young side at 11 but because it is good for 10 years the Doc felt she would still be covered through her college years. I do believe it is mandatory for the state schools here in AZ.
Very, very sad to loose a child. My thoughts and prayers go out to theses families.
