Smithsonian and Moon myths

An eBay item claiming that the badge it has on sale is of a group voted "most prettiest badge" and featurned in the Smithsonian and is pinned to the US flag on the moon made me post tonight.

I've heard this about every group at one point or another. Is there a good website or thread that debunks these sort of fraternity urban myths with facts of their own?

There are several threads on here. But yeah, I'm pretty sure that none of that stuff is true.

"Most prettiest." That sounds really official to me.

I know, but it's not like she's using it for a research project or publication purposes.

I thought I read somewhere that the Alpha Chi Omega badge was in the Smithsonian.....

And, I heard that Niel Armstrong's wife was a sister and he placed her badge on the flag that now adorns the moon.....

Oh, well

There was a Kappa badge I saw displayed in the Smithsonian, it was part of the exhibit "First Ladies: Political Role and Public Image" which is now traveling around the country. It belonged to Lucy Hayes, an honor initiate.

There are times I wish that every GLO would send a copy of their pin to the Smithsonian, and then send everyone who says their pin is/was on the moon TO the moon!

I think the pins could be part of a great display. I ordered Bound by a Might Vow when I saw someone mention it here and a historic overview of the NPC groups could be amazing! Great idea, Honeychile!

ETA: looking at the site linked above, apparently there was an exhibit at one point. Does anybody know what it was like?

Thank you! I think it would be a great display, too, since it's such a big part of college life in the United States. It could also state in no uncertain terms that no pin was ever left on the moon!

I'll have to check Bound by a Mighty Vow for my own edification - thanks for the mention!

Thank you thank you thank you-especially AlphaFrog for the helpful website. As a follow up, is there an official response on any NASA or Smithsonian website?
