Most beautiful Sorority/Fraternity Row

Fuzzie started a thread about most beautiful badges...how about most beautiful chapter houses???

I think the university of kansas has some very historic and very beautiful houses...especially Pi Phi, Phi Psi, Beta, Theta and DG.

I visited the univ. of ok, and was blown away by the houses.

looking online...ucla has some very awesome chapter houses as well.


Any thoughts??? My chapter is getting ready to build a new house, so this is top of mind for me.

I do know that the Phi Psi house at kansas is the largest fraternity house in the nation. I have seen pictures of it and it looks unbelievable.

It is amazing! But, just to clarify....I'm not talking about size. I'm talking about either how beautiful and well kept they are...or how rich in history...like for example....the Sigma NU house at KU is the old governor's mansion...it's said to be haunted. lots of little nooks and crannies to get lost in....on purpose or not... think Rose Red.....heeeheeehee....

If I remember correctly, the first addition to the Phi Psi house was made after one of their long-time house cooks won the lottery and donated around $1 million to the gentlemen. See it pays to be nice to your house directors/moms, cooks/chefs, cleaning personel, etc....

Well Greek Guide, being from the midwest Kansas maybe (?) and knowing about the KU houses, and on building a new house, may I presume you are AGD (?) If so your house is going to be built between the LXA and SN House on that Hill! Am I close?

UCLA has nice houses, true, but as a greek row...it's awful crowded together, and the houses directly across the street detract a LOT from what is there, plus the greek row is really spread out.

From my travels, I'd say that Southern Methodist (SMU) in Dallas had the most beautiful greek row I have ever seen. The University of Wyoming also has a nice greek quad area as well.

Most other schools have greeks spread too far around the campus that I have visited. Though some individual houses are unbelievably gorgeous.

Well, there is NO WAY that your Canadian cousins here can compete with those gorgeous houses that are at Ole Miss and UVA, but some of the houses at U of Toronto have a beautiful character (brownstone look) and are very "urban" (especially since the houses are right down town)

I've seen the Greek Houses at:
UCLA - has a gorgeous Greek Row,
USC - has some gorgeous houses too (especially the girls houses). The boys' houses look a bit abused.
UBC - plain, modest
U of Alberta - cute houses, especially the KAT house. They have a circle shaped window which I love
U of Toronto (see above links)
University of Western Ontario - it is hard to even find the houses due to lack of signage
McGill - (see University of Western Ontario)
Wilfrid Laurier - houses are cute, modest
Santa Clara University - cute, modest
San Jose State University - some were nice, some not so nice
UC Berkeley - palaces! GORGEOUS!
Stanford - some were nice, some were generic looking dorm buildings

Now, that presents a quandary. How do people feel about having their chapters mixed in with residential versus part of a "Greek Town?" Does it help or hinder the GLO cause on campuses?

I can see both sides to the pendulum.

I've only ever seen UBC's and University of Washington's greek row - UBC's is very plain looking, UW however I found absolutely gorgeous.

UW's Greek Row is gorgeous - on the outside. On the inside, all the houses are basically dangerously in need of repairs, even if they are decorated nicely. I was talking to the Chi O house mom, and she was saying their house is in as bad shape as the AXD house, which needs a ridiculous amount spent in electrical repairs. But they are lovely buildings.

Other Greek rows I've seen ... most campuses I've seen either didn't have Greek houses, put them in identical dorm houses, or had them spread out all over campus, like mine did - hence no row.

Never fret, CutiePie...uniqueness is cool.

I happen to love the SDT house at KU. It's one of the smallest in terms of size, but it is really cool looking. It's looks like a medevial cottage. It's very cozy and is nestled on top of a hill in between some trees.

I have no idea!!!!! All of the alums got the prospectus in the mail...we are going to need several million over the next 3-5 years and probably then some.

I think we send a check...they dig a little....send a check...they dig a little more. I think my measly check turned the jackhammer on and then off again. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahahahaha hahahahahhaahaha

I can only imagine what those poor girls' housebills are going to be like......but, i don't know any of the in's and out's of the plans and funding.

You want big...check out Gamma Phi and Kappa and some others at KU...good lord!!

It used to be two houses but was built into one way back in the day. The pictures from the construction are framed and mounted in the TV Room. The house also has a GIANT wooden crest and artwork drawn by one of our founders.


GreekGuide: I like that SDT house...except for the dining room, which looks like a cafeteria!
