I just wanted to get the opinions of any of the
members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
I have several friends who are
members of the organization, but unfortunately none of them are familiar with any women who are apart of the
graduate chapter that I was trying to join.
I noticed that on the national website, in the Chapter Locator section, that the name and e-mail address of the baselius was included with the chapter's post office box address. So I decided to send a simple e-mail to the woman whose name was listed.
Here is what I said:
Greetings,
I hope this message finds you in good health and spirits. My name is PerfectVerse06 and I am a December 2005
graduate of ABC University. I am writing to you in regards to the XYZ chapter
of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I would like to know if there will be any events in the near future that will allow me to make the acquaintance of you and the other
members of the chapter so that I may get a better understanding of the dynamics of XYZ Chapter and your contributions to the community. I understand that your time is valuable and it often seems as though there aren't enough hours in a day, so I greatly appreciate you taking a moment to answer my message. Thank you very much.
I realized after I sent the e-mail that I hadn't stated that I'd gotten her e-mail address from
www.aka1908.com, but then I thought I'd probably wouldn't get a response so I kind of chalked it up as being a loss on my part.
Well, she did write me back. She'd thought I was a member, and I explained that I wasn't so she said she'd give my information to the membership chair of the chapter. But she also asked how I got her information, and I told her that I got it from the national website and she responded, "okay, thanks".
This is what I said to her:
Ms. Doe,
I hope that I haven't overstepped my boundaries or offended you by contacting you using the information on the national website. If I have, please accept my deepest apology. I was just at a loss as far as trying to meet the women of XYZ and I thought this would be a way to get some information. Thank you.
And she never responded.
So, my question to you all is, did I do something wrong here?
