Ole miss: What to wear for rush!
I'm rushing at ole miss in fall 2010, I don't come from the south & where i live sororities aren't a big thing, no one in my family has ever been in one. I'm looking for some advice on what is appropriate to wear for rush at Ole miss.

Ole Miss is extremely competitive. Do you have any recommendation forms? You will need those.
Not sure about the dressing but I wanted to put that out there.

I couldn't find anything specific about about what to wear at Ole Miss, but you should probably read up about everything regarding Ole Miss recruitment. Here's a helpful post that refers to other helps posts, lol

As someone who is an Ole Miss alumna, sorority alumna, and I work on campus, I would read over what the new Panhellenic Website says.
http://www.olemiss.edu/orgs/panhelle...l/Welcome.html
Also, keep in mind that recruitment is late in October this year so you will have been on campus for almost 8 weeks before recruitment starts, so you'll have plenty of time to buy clothing. Furthrmore, late October in Mississippi can be anything from warm and humid to cool and rainy. So, I wouldn't go out and buy anything just yet!
There is picture when you click on the recruitment link and it has 3 pictures. Those are the 3 pictures of what they suggest you wear for each round of recruitment. However, your Gamma Chi's (Recruitment Counselors) will inform you in August when recruitment meetings begin for PNMs on what to wear.
Good luck!

Okay off track from the OP but i was looking at the panhellenic website and I had a question. How can some chapters have 300+ girls and then some only have a 120? (I got to a small school and our average chapter size is about 130sih...).

Thanks! All the advice is so helpful! Also, I was told that you are in no way supposed to wear white because rush is after labor day. Is this true?

One does not wear white in the south before Easter nor after Labor Day....and no velvet after Valentine's. Winter white is fine.
Since there are only 9 groups and around 800 or more women go thru there, new member classes have run in the 80's (and even 90's a couple of years). As for why certain groups are larger or smaller than others, it would be unseemly to speculate on that.

OleMissGlitter - what is CARE Walk? (If this was the 80s it could stand for Candies Are Really Excruciating.)

Good question. It is a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk that Panhellenic sponsors every year before recruitment begins. ZTA Alumnae in Oxford are also a sponsor, even though they do not have a collegiate chapter on campus anymore. All of the sororities are required to participate and potential new members as well. This past year a few fraternities were sponsors too I believe.

Great site, and they are honest about the need for recs. But I question whether it's helpful to publish chapter membership totals -- it seems to single out the smallest chapter. Are they maybe thinking that the culture at Ole Miss is so strong that nothing on a web site could influence PNMs one way or the other?
I had to wonder about the hand sign one chapter is making in their pics. I mean, I see that they're making their letters, but it could be mistaken at first glance.

I thought that didn't serve any purpose either, but you're probably right in that nothing on that website is going to change perceptions of the best and worst groups.
Either that or else they want girls to realize that it will be harder to get into certain sororities and they shouldn't just focus on them.

I did a double take when I saw the hand signs you are referring to! It took me a minute to figure out what they were doing. The hand signs could be construed as offensive to someone who doesn't know better.
As a side note, the chapters at Ole Miss look amazing! I hope the OP shares her experiences after recruitment.
