Clemson Transfer

Hi all,

I am transferring to Clemson next year (my soph. year). I have been looking into joining a sorority but really don't know much about Clemson's greek life. Are they as competitive as some of the SEC schools? Should I try to get recs? Thanks in advance

Clemson is competitive. Recs are essential, especially as a sophomore. I would imagine that being a sophomore is going to make it more difficult for you to receive a bid than it would be for a freshman.

I think you would do well to search some of the threads regarding sophomore pnm's and their experience/ advice offered, etc. Actually, any pnm advice offered will apply to you more than likely.

Others have advised (correctly) about recs. If you're interested in seeing fairly recent GPAs for Clemson Greeks, you can check out this :

(Click on "Grades/Statistics")

The info about GPAs might give some insight into at least the general GPA range that sororities there would be looking for.

thanks so much for the GPA info i got a 3.1 my 1st semester and am looking at a 3.80 finishing up this semester. That info was somewhat reassuring. I like how they post avg GPAs with the sorority. From what I have read on other posts it seems like having low grades is a big reason why it is harder for sophomores get a bid. Do they look at H.S grades as well?

They only look at HS grades for freshmen.

This confuses me, and since my campus does deferred recruitment, this issue doesn't come up. I can't imagine a sophomore with a college GPA being compared to a freshman with a high school GPA! It's comparing apples to oranges. Are sophomores' college GPAs compared separately from the freshmen's high school GPAs? For example, a 3.5 is pretty darn good for a college GPA, but much less impressive for a high school GPA.
