It looks like Iowa State also does one weekend of structured recruitment in the fall. This might be a nice option for you coming from out-of-state as you'll be able to learn more about the 32 fraternities currently on campus. You can get more information from IFC during your orientation, and may even be able to tour a chapter facility if time allows.

Otherwise, just get to know current members through classes and events on campus in the fall. Make sure you take the time to choose the best fit for you. The chapters on campus range in size from 20-130 members, and I believe all but a few are currently housed (some have gorgeous new houses - definitely different than when I was on campus 20+ years ago!). My nephew is a fraternity member at Iowa State and has really enjoyed his experience in his chapter.

It's gonna be a hootenanny.
Or maybe a jamboree.
Or possibly even a shindig or lollapalooza.
Perhaps it'll be a hootshinpaloozaree. I don't know.
