Based on the contents of the SAE Member Directory as of the time of this post and only because the names of the parties concerned were publicly published in the news:
  • The Washington City Alpha Chapter is not currently showing up in search results;
  • Tristan Ralph is listed as the Eminent Deputy Archon (Chapter VP) on the Chapter's roster;
  • Jeffrey Becker is listed as the Alumni Chairman on the Chapter's roster;
  • Ashton Acosta, Matthew Berger, and Kevin Alkinburg are listed on the Chapter's roster; and
  • Anthony Acosta is neither on the Chapter's roster, nor found in the member directory.

No information is provided concerning the present status of the Chapter or of any of its members or alumni, nor does the national website have any media statements concerning the chapter (as would happen if National suspends or revokes a charter).

The behavior described certainly falls well short of our national standards and expectations. As to the fines, even if they are warranted (as opposed to excessive), do the authorities really expect to collect north of $50,000 each from college students? They're never going to see anything close to $315k. If this behavior is typical of the chapter, then the charter should be revoked and anyone involved expelled; any truly innocent parties would be automatically suspended by virtue of the loss of the charter, but would be restored to good standing as alumni upon graduation.
