I received some additional information from our Alumnae director of chapters, and I wanted to get the word out. Because some of the information (names and addresses) is sensitive, I have edited this information - contact Fraternity Headquarters if you need additional details.

Alumnae Efforts:
  • The Baton Rouge Alumnae Association is collecting books and coloring books for the children living in shelters. These items may be sent to: (edited for privacy - pm me if you need the address). In support of our National Philanthropy, RIF, the Baton Rouge AA will be placing the Kappa Kappa Gamma/RIF book plates inside of each book and coloring book given to the children.
  • We are looking into a method for Kappas in Region III to check in and let us know that they are okay or in need of assistance.
  • We are currently looking into a way for NOLA.com to be hyperlinked to our Web site. It is called “Everything New Orleans” and has a help center for “missing persons” – tell them you are okay. A Kappa Alumna in the area who lost her home during the Hurricane is monitoring the site for any Kappas who are in need.
  • The Rose McGill Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund Application has been revised for ease of our members. Marj Converse and Kay McCord are working together to expedite the application process.
Below are approximate numbers of alumnae on the galleys in the affected areas that Carol Sanders, Director of Alumnae and Debbie Holtsclaw, Information Technology Specialist have gathered. (removed numbers counts because this information is sensitive)

Chapter Efforts:
  • Tulane University is currently closed for the semester. Tulane students are being advised to enroll in other universities/colleges. Our Kappa Chapters have assisted with housing for Kappas who have been displaced from Tulane.
  • The Tulane chapter president is putting together a list of women who have enrolled at other universities/colleges across the country. This way we can contact those chapters and have them reach out to the visiting Kappas.
LSU had wind damage but classes will resume.
  • All chapter housing issues are being forwarded to Francesca DeMarco, Chairman of Advisory Board/Housing.
Our insurance carrier, MJ Insurance, has been in direct contact with our House Boards since the onset of the Hurricane.

The Kappa Kappa Gamma Web site will be updated regularly. As new updates are received we will continue to update all of you. Thank you for the outpouring of e-mails, prayers and offers of assistance to our members during this horrific national disaster.
