What worked for me was this: I learned how to meditate. Also, about an hour before bed, I turn off the tv, music, etc. and I lower the lights. A hot bath helps. A cup of chamomile tea with just a little honey. I gently push out all the anxious thoughts and focus on calming thoughts. It takes time, and it's not a linear curve, but you can retrain your brain. A book that helped me was "you are not your brain" (you can get it on Amazon).
