I noticed that there are several organizations named Alpha Nu Omega.

http://alphanuomega.net/

The one that Barack Obama became a member of does not seem to be any of the ones listed above.
At first I thought that the fraternity he pledged at UIU was the predominantly black Christian fraternity (
www.alphanuomega.org), but that wasn't founded until November 3, 1988 and according to their website does not have a chapter at UIU.
In the article they mention that Dr. Doug McReynolds is their advisor. Looking on his website (
http://www.uiu.edu/~liberalarts/mcreynoldsd.htm), Alpha Nu Omega is referred to as a "predominantly African American", which means that it is not the other two organizations mentioned above (
http://alphanuomega.net/) nor (
http://stuser.mcdaniel.edu/ANO/index2.htm).
Therefore, the Alpha Nu Omega Fraternity at UIU seems to be a local organization.
I agree with ladygreek's third statement.
