Russia, Brazil, and Mexico have much stricter firearms regulation than the US and yet have higher percapita firearms death rates; additionally, Switzerland has more liberal firearms regulation and a lower rate than the US.

The data doesn't lie. There is a serious implication that more privately held firearms will yeild lower homicide rates as a whole.
