Alpha Kappa Alpha Cross-campus membership question.

To the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., I need your help!

I am interested in joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., but I attend XXX University online and reside outside the local area of the university (I reside in Honolulu, Hawaii). The university does have a chapter, but since I don't reside there, I’d like to know if the organization does cross-campus or city-wide membership. If you are unfamiliar, cross-campus membership is when the current college you attend does not have a chapter, but the closest college who does will accept members. I've also researched on the International website, but could not find an answer for this. The only thing I've found is from the FAQs:

Q: Is it possible for me to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha if I attend an accredited four-year college or university that that does not have a chapter?

A: A nearby graduate chapter in your college community willing to sponsor you can recommend you to the Regional Director for General Membership in the Sorority. Use the Chapter Locator to identify nearby graduate chapters and contacts.

Can the local graduate chapter sponsor me (if accepted of course) for general membership? I meet all the requirements for membership, and I just want to know what my options are for me in this situation or if anyone has dealt with a similar situation.

The website doesn’t completely explain how a graduate chapter can recommend someone for general membership. So, I’d like to know if any chapter does this, specifically in Hawaii.
