I don't know why, but you are making me laugh really hard right now. You are so paranoid.:) They're able to get by because they have a lot of ways of fooling our immune system. Like a tapeworm for example. You know, the really long worm that lives in your intestines. Well, actually before that happens, they first need to spend some time in an intermediate host, and it's usually an animal such as a pig. And you eat a lot of pork, PB. Do your "chitlins" ring a bell? Well, the pig swallows the eggs with its food, and parasites hatch once they get into the intestines. They use enzymes to dig a hole in the intestines and wriggle their way out. Once they reach a capillary, they ride the bloodstream through the body to a muscle or an organ. Once they get to that point, they settle down, and they start to grow into a marble like cyst. It's here, in these cysts where they wait for their final host (PB). And they can wait for PB, and anyone else in these things for years. If pigs were the only places where tapeworms spent their cyst years, we'd probably know nothing about how they survive the immune system. But sometimes, the eggs end up in people, like you, PB. Actually PB, you have to be careful, because a person with a full grown tapeworm living inside of him/her may get eggs on his hands and then make food for other people. The eggs proceed to act as if they're in a pig, they hatch, and the larvae go through the same steps of breaking out of the intestines and finding a home somewhere in the body, sometimes the eye or the brain. They make the cyst I was telling you about and depending on where they happen to settle, it could be harmless or fatal. If a tapeworm presses against blood vessels, it can kill off tissue, and if it causes inflamation in the brain, it can trigger epileptic seizures. If it fiinds a safe spot, it may go unnoticed for years. So, all of those "shitlins" that you eat..well...I'm sure you know the rest. You may have a 60 foot friend living with you, going to work with you, sleeping with you, etc.

And my mom is staring at me because I'm literally on my knees laughing so hard at you. Hilarious! Did I scare you? Hmm?:)

Girl please. I have sense enough to know a tapeworm won't get in somebody's eye or brain. And how does it fool our immune system? So you think I could really get something like that from eating chitlins? Seriously, though. All jokes aside.

Agreed. I'm going to be late and I don't even care. Once upon a time (a couple years ago), this was a week where hardly anybody was at work and we could wear jeans. Now they've banned jeans totally and took away the floating holidays we all used to use this week, so I expect it will be busier than previous years. But still, I can't get motivated to get ready for work.

Cool...office is empty, loadouts, patches and updates can be done in peace and if I am lucky, I can blow outta here at 1...

My God you are so freaking hilarious! You hate parasites so bad, lol.:p:p:p PB, seriously, I'm not kidding. It's not often, but it can happen. You can get them and other worms from eating any kind of beef or pork that's not prepared properly, or by not washing your hands properly. There's also zoonotic diseases. They can fool our immune system by releasing chemicals that can somehow jam the signals that would nornally raise an army of inflammatory T cells. Instead, they trick the immune system into making antibodies. When the antibodies latch onto one of the cysts that I was telling you about, the tapeworm drags them inside its shell and eats them. The tapeworm grows, in other words, by feeding on the efforts of your very own immune system.

I swear, I can't even breathe from laughing SO hard. Especially, when you asked could you really get them from eating "chitlins"....lol

Oh, and have fun at work. I'll keep warm by the fireplace, eating chocolate chip muffies, watching movies with my mom, while you work. Ha.:p

I got a gift certificate to a yarn store, so I'm gonna go by there today to check it out. Yay! Oh, and I'm almost done with my boyfriend's hat. I'm going to knit 3 more hats in the next couple of weeks.

It's been snowing since last night. It's absolutely gorgeous out and I love every minute of it but it would be nice if my car could magically brush itself off when I have to leave tomorrow :p

ETA: I also just started The White Queen by Phillipa Gregory and am loving it!

Little32 12-28-2009 07:36 PM

It has been almost 4 years but, today, victory is mine!

On Christmas Day, 4 of my friends got engaged! 'Tis the season, I suppose.

I have a dress shopping field trip to Hudson (All Brides Beautiful) with one of them this weekend.
