News that I missed:

Delta Zeta installed their colony at the University of Central Florida. Installation took place on the weekend of March 18th. The new chapter's designation is Pi Xi. Congratulations to all the new members.

Congratulations to Gamma Phi Beta, colonizing at UConn in fall 2012!

I also attended our extension presentation at VCU last night--very excited about a future opportunity in my backyard!

Great news!!!

Alpha Epsilon Pi has shut down the Boston University chapter. The chapter was closed due to a hazing incident that recently occured.

Lest I be accused of bias, Sigma Chi's Alpha chapter at Miami(OH) was closed due to repeated RMF issues.

DU expansion Presentation

DU just made a presentation at Worcester Polytechnic.

This would be a good fit for Delta Upsilon as WPI is a strong greek school and DU was traditionally strong in New England.

This was Alpha Epsilon Pi - the fraternity not Alpha Epsilon Phi - the sorority

Oops.

Corrected.

DeltaBetaBaby 04-12-2012 03:23 PM

Can you shut down a chapter that already doesn't exist?

Colonies have been closed before they chartered, so technically yes.

Whole issue of semantics.

Congratulations! Good luck at VCU. Do you know who else presented (if any) at VCU?

I thought BU AEPi was underground. I don't see how HQ can sanction a chapter they don't recognize.

Was it underground with regard to AEPi nationals or underground with regard to BU? Or both?

It was underground, unrecognized by BU. AEPi HQ, however, recognized it as a chartered chapter.

But not any more.

Triangle Fraternity:

Congratulations to the Michigan Tech Colony who will be re-installed as a Chapter this Saturday, April 14th.
Current National President, Jeff Cottrell mtu94, and Senior Education & Leadership Consultant,
Chad Girard mtu09, will be on hand for the festivities in Houghton, Michigan.

Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity:

Installation of Kappa Delta Chapter at Cornell University
Sunday, April 15, 2012

Installation of Lambda Delta Chapter at the University of the Pacific
Sunday, April 22, 2012

Theta Tau is coed, and not in the NAIC, but has chapter houses.

Sciencewoman 04-12-2012 10:53 PM

Michigan Tech. is a great engineering school...glad to see that the Triangle chapter is recolonizing there! I'm sure the re-installing MTU alums/officers are thrilled!

We partnered with Triangle for homecoming my sophomore year at Michigan, and we had the BEST float ever...those guys came up with cool mechanical moving parts, etc. It was great!

modorney 04-13-2012 08:21 AM

> Michigan Tech. is a great engineering school

Here's a great Greek Map they have done. I like how they have pictures of all the houses.
http://www.greek.mtu.edu/map/GreekMapfall2011.pdf

Alumni support and oversight is tough when most of your alums live at least four hours away. I went to RPI, which is in the same situation. We've talked about a "Fellowship of Remote Chapters" - an informal alumni intergreek group that helps each other's chapters and works on mentoring all greeks when in the area.

If I remember correctly, before Theta Tau went co-ed (sometime in the late 1970s), they had been a member of the NIC.

I am not sure of the time line, but I recall Theta Tau being listed as a member of the NIC on - I think - an on-line copy of a "Baird's Manual". However, it could have been some other list.

Again, not sure of the dates, but I want to say they joined the NIC in the 1910s maybe, and withdrew in the 1950s or 1960s - or possibly before then. Again, the timeline is fuzzy, but I do remember wondering why Theta Tau withdrew when they did - especially since it seemed well before they voted to go co-ed.

Theta Phi Alpha has been invited to colonize at Lynn University(FL) this coming fall. Good luck for a successful colony.

Ditto Triangle Mtech congratulations! My brother-in-law enjoys attending the yearly Houghton Winter Fest; I'll let him know to look for an additional group's sculpture in 2013.

Western Kentucky University Approved as a SID Chapter
Congratulations to Western Kentucky University! They were just approved as a SID Chapter! We can't wait to announce your chartering date!

[A SID chapter is a "Sorority in Development" - much like a colony]

Very interesting. There are currently only 3 chapters in Florida, the largest being at FAU, within a 5 mile radius.

LOL -- Pi Xi was the name of the scandal sheet published each spring at Mizzou. (In the late 60's/early 70's.) Houses who had members named got Pi Xi spray-painted on the front wall.

The University of Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada) has begun the process of establishing Greek organizations on their campus. This will be a new Greek system.

Western Oregon University has open for extension for NPC groups. WOU currently has chapters of Kappa Sigma, Alpha Delta Chi, and Omega Delta Phi. WOU is wishing to expand its Greek community by adding both sororities and fraternities.
