Her chapter's rush chair would not believe her when she told the RC that bed quota was not the norm.

Why is it that they do bed rush? I was under the impression that all NPC groups were highly encouraged to use RFM on their campuses. No?

Unfortunately the best answer I can give you is "because it's always been done that way." The culture of living in the house is truly ingrained in the women there. Only a few of the chapters even allow live outs, a few years ago the daughter family friend developed a medical condition which made it impossible for her to live in the chapter house. Since her chapter did not allow live outs, she was forced to terminate her membership. She was heart broken, but could not safely live in the house and the chapter would not allow her to live out even after seeing the report her doctor wrote.

NPC has encouraged to the IU chapters to go to q/t, but it gets voted down each time it is brought up.

The bulletin said they would notify groups of presentations on March 5th.

And potentially grounds for a lawsuit? This sounds like local shenanigans; I can't believe that any national org would go along with this, had the correct people known about it.

I tend to agree. If one has medical documentation she is willing to provide, I have trouble with terminating someone for that.

BEYOND EXCITED! DPhiE has also been invited to re-colonize the Alpha Upsilon Chapter at Johnson & Wales University in RI.

The whole situation was unfortunate, she would have been a very active member if she had just been allowed to live out. I understood that if they made an exception for one person, then they have had many other requests. She moved in the house in the fall, became ill by mid-September. Her illness was not obvious to most and personal in nature, so I think many doubted she was truly ill. She had signed the housing contract for the whole year, the only way they would let her break it was to pay the entire sum of the contract. She didn't the entire chapter to know her business, I think she felt like they really didn't care about her and that pushed her to terminate her membership.

I do wish the advisors of the chapters at IU could make more chapters see the benefit of having live outs. They are still dues paying members and if they want to live out and be active, why not let them. Maybe if more women understood the financial benefit of allowing a few sisters to live out, more women could receive bids.

IU uses RFM....and they still have bed rush. One can hope that the chapters will see the value of quota / total soon!
