This coming August will mark 20 years of GC's forum community as the forums were launched in August 1999.

For the year prior to the launch of the forums GC was mainly just a real-time chat room. I changed over to the forums format because while chat rooms can be useful and fun, there was less long term impact/benefit of the discussions. Being a forum enabled GC to become not only a place for current discussions but also a knowledge base for anyone who seeks out and wants to learn from those discussions/information in the future.
