Weird rush stories

I am just curious to hear some people's crazy rush stories. For example, having someone famous come through, accidently throwing up on a rushee, anything else generally embarrassing or funny! These are fun!

carnation 10-29-2001 01:56 PM

There was a thread about a year ago with some funny rush stuff, including a hilarious story about Sigmagrrl somehow thinking she was supposed to kiss the girl who preffed her and another one about some rushee who used her cellphone during parties--I'll have to look for it.

In the meantime, let's hear some good rush stories!

ilovemyglo 10-29-2001 02:05 PM

Not for my sorority, but for a fraternity...
I was really good friends with some Sig Eps for awhile and it was one of the three nights girls were allowed at their house for rush so I went over there with some friends. These guys come through and start asking us about fraternities and I was talking up Sig Ep and all cause they were my boys... well one of the rush guys busts out with "so are you all the house whores?" and the other guy was like "yeah, do we get to screw you if we join?" we were all so shocked all I could stutter out was "you two little shits..." and walked away. I told me friend there what had been said and he went and explained to the guys that the girls at the rush parties were FRIENDS of the guys, some were girlfriends and some were little sisters so they needed to be respectful. They didn't rush Sig Ep, but it was really funny later on talking about it!
Okay a funny sorority rush story...
So, this year during rush we had goldfish at our second round of parties in little bowls on each individual table. They were all cute and stuff.. so this girl comes in and sits down and was like 'oh my god, with all this clapping and talking and as loud as you all are you should be ashamed of yourself." I was like HUH?? and she started lecturing me about how goldfish are extremely sound sensitive and we were murdering innocent little fish (Did I mention that they are actually FEEDER FISH! that would have died in another fishes stomach?). so she grabs the bowl on the table and starts to comfort the fish by trying to sing a lullabye... now tell me.... what do you do when you have a guest singing hush little baby to a feeder fish? I was so lost and the situation was so hilarious.... so I tried talking to the girl for a little bit but I was quickly let go by a sister who came over to talk to her.... let me tell you though! Oh my gosh! and for information, only three out of fifty fish died that day and the restgot homes in a sister's aquarium!

lyrelyre 10-29-2001 02:18 PM

I was rushing this girl on the first day and we were sitting on the floor of our formal living room. I told the rushee that her skirt was cute (it was on of those wrap around and tie skirts). She said thanks and kinda messed with it. When it was time to go she stood up and her skirt had somehow come untied. So she was standing in the middle of our living room and at least 120 girls in her shirt and a thong. I felt so bad for her, but it was so funny I couldn't help but laugh.:p

Bid Day

I told this one to Carnation and she liked it, so I'll post it.

At our school on Bid Day, the tradition is the sororities wait on the front lawn with our big sorority letters. The new members have to run out to their group. One of our new members, Julie, accidently ran to the wrong group! She went to the sorority next to us and hugged those girls and given all the goodies of that other sorority! We KNEW it was wrong because we had our final list. One of our sisters yelled for her and Julie dropped all the other sorority's things and ran to us! How embarassing!

MoxieGrrl 10-30-2001 12:17 PM

During recruitment, Rho Chis do not escort the girls to sororites for the 3rd and 4th rounds. We have to wait until everyone we invited is outside the house before we can let them in. It was 7 o'clock, so I peeked out the door to see if everyone was there. Unfortunately, when I stretched around the door to look at them, my suit jacket button popped open! I looked at all the rushees in shock while they got a look at my new Victoria's Secret bra. Yeah, great impression I made for KD! (What's worse is that I'm membership!) I quickly apologized while they hysterically laughed at me. It didn't turn out so bad though....all the girls but 2 from that party went KD!!

carnation 10-30-2001 12:40 PM

I don't think I told this one...we had a rushee come through the door wearing an orange and purple dress, orange hose, purple shoes, and a huge orange bow in her hair. She socked the rush chairman DeeDee in the arm hard and drawled, "Hi, DayDay, I'm ___ ___ from Altoona, Alabama!"

The rush chairman recovered and so did those of us around her and we got through the party somehow. Even though conversation ceased in each little group she walked by...sisters and rushees were trying to be nice, but her appearance was so shocking that people were just temporarily left speechless!

Auburn had a policy in which each sorority was assigned a group of girls (alphabetically) that they couldn't cut to prevent the heartbreak of being cut by all 14 groups. Guess who was in our no-cut group. Guess who came back dressed as the Star-Spangled Banner...we were so afraid that other rushees would cut us because we hadn't cut her. Shallow, I know, but you have to do what you have to do to get a good pledge class. Many of us had bruised arms all week where she socked us...

ETA 9 years later, lol: I just now realized that I wasn't clear; each sorority had a group of girls that we had to bring back to second parties, no matter what, so that no rushee would be cut by all 14 groups after first parties. We could cut them after second parties.

aopirose 10-30-2001 01:08 PM

Where did she go Carnation?

carnation 10-30-2001 01:11 PM

AOII! No, not really. I never saw her again and I don't know if she left Auburn or toned down her hair and makeup so we didn't recognize her.

See, I forgot the crowning feature of her hair--she had her bangs cut like Batman's cowl, scooped way up and coming down to a big point in the middle.

maggieaxid 10-30-2001 02:00 PM

We had a girl similar to that story!
She showed up in all Pink (sidebar: she told us she really wanted to go phi mu too!). She had a pink shirt on, pink legging pants (you know, the kind you wore in elementry school when they were cool!), white socks with pink pom poms on them, and pink flats. To top it off she was wearing a "pink ladies" jacket...ya know, from Greese! And all she talked about was how she wanted to be a pink lady! (i don't know if she realized she was in the AZD house and we have nothing to do with the color pink except for our rose!) Needless to say, she was cut from everyone...even from Phi Mu.
She stayed at Elon, stopped wearing pink, but every time i saw her, all i thought about was how she told everyone she wanted to be a pink lady!
Another story is that this girl who had a brother who was in a good frat on our campus was going through rush. and everyone knew what a brat she was. well a week or two before rush, me and a bunch of sisters were at the bar and this girl starts flicking off my sisters and saying all this stuff, then she had the audacity to come to our party in her PJ's and told everyone she was going to be a ZTA or tri-sig because her brother would make sure of it. and during the same party she started flicking off the same sisters!!!!! needless to say, she got cut, and never recieved a bid and was forever deemed "finger girl". Her sophmore year she rushed again, and kissed our butts. She was again completely dropped.

ZTAngel 10-30-2001 02:21 PM

We had this one girl come through who was so rude to all of my sisters. I think she may have been a legacy at another sorority and pretty much knew she was going to get in there. So, she was out to get ZTA. At one our parties, about five minutes before the party ended, she decides she has to go to the bathroom. Spent over 10 minutes in there. The little b*tch was trying to get us a rush infraction! She was cut that day.

That same day, I rushed a girl who was slightly...um...weird. First, she sat there and told me about how much she loves bowling and hopes that ZTA has bowling socials (no offense to anyone who loves bowling but this girl was going on and on about her average scores and the weight of the ball she uses). Then, she says to me, "I know that I'm not exactly thin. I'm just afraid that when I join Zeta that you all are going to stand me up in front of the whole chapter in a bikini and circle my fat." I had a heart palpitation. I said as calmly as possible, "If you joined Zeta, we would not circle your fat. We do not condone hazing." We cut her that day.

carnation 10-30-2001 02:27 PM

ZTAngel--

   ! Did either rushee get a bid?

ZTAngel 10-30-2001 02:35 PM

I'm pretty sure that the first I listed went where she's a legacy at. She was probably nice to them. I'm not positive though.

As for the second girl....I talked to a friend of mine a week after rush who is a KD. She told me that the same girl asked one of her sisters that same exact question. I'm assuming that she asked all the sororities that question then. I don't think any sorority in their right mind would keep her.

kimmykimmy 10-30-2001 02:37 PM

Two girls I remember back in my day of rushing in the early 1990s.

I rushed this girl who had shoulder length black straight hair parted down the side. HOWEVER, her one side of her hair hung directly infront of her eye (I forget which side) so much that you could only see her one side of her face. We commented on it but she was cute enough to bring back and thought that maybe her barrette fell out or she didn't want to figdet with her haid all through our party so she kept it infront of her face.

Anyway, next round she cam back and her hair was exactly the same. Now we were wondering if she had an eye behind her hair or if it was an empty socket! It was a running joke among us as to whoever had her to try to find out what was hidden under her hair. It was really creepy after a while but also really funny.

She pledged a prodimentely jewish house on campus and we never found out if it was an empty socket or what!

Next girl I had was BEAUTIFUL. I mean drop dead. I mean so beyond beautiful she was almost painful to look at because she was so outstanding looking. HOWEVER, she was a total and complete b**ch to me. We invited her back and again I came over and said hello and she seriously didn't attempt manners with me or anything and didn't speak to me. Or anyone else.

I wanted to cut her but I was a pretty respected member and we were a new chapter and our advisors wanted us to keep her for as long as we could for eye candy. Fine, during voting I was mature and voted for her stating that there were two more rounds of parties and she was quite beautiful. Fine, we kept her and I was sick about it. Third round (before preference) she came back and was exactly the same. So, she wasn't just rude to me but also my little and other sisters so I had had it. Respected member or not I directly went to our national officers who were there supervising and CRIED (I am not a crier) to them saying that I DO NOT want her as a sister. Knowing that if we didn't cut her this round, she would be on our bid list once she showed up at preference. Luckilly we cut her and you know what? EVERY other house did too.

She was a nightmare.

DeltaBetaBaby 10-30-2001 03:49 PM

For the first round of recruitment, all the rushees wear the exact same T-shirt, paired with whatever they are comfortable in, usually cute jeans or khakis. Once girl, however, decided to modify hers a bit. She actually had cut the sleeves and neck off. She had then cut the side seams open, and fastened about twelve safety pins on each side to hold it together.

Another girl came through and was immediately noticed because she has blue hair. This isn't the South, so you might be able to get away with that. Then she flicked off her rusher during a party. You do not get away with that.

ZetaLuvBunny 10-30-2001 05:12 PM

OMG! I can't believe the one about the "eye socket". That's kinda creepy! The description of the girl who asked about her fat being circled reminds me of Mimi from the Drew Carey show (the way she dresses). LOL!

I've seen this mentioned in a few posts, but I'm not sure exactly what it means?

This isn't a story directly about rush, but...

When I was a rho chi, we had training sessions where one of us would act as a rushee/PNM and another of us would be the rho chi counseling her. The "rushee" would be told what scenario to act out, and the PX would have to counsel her accordingly.

I had to "counsel" a "rushee" whose scenario was that she wanted to suicide. And I was supposed to talk her out of it, without mentioning the negative impacts it would have on her possibility of getting a bid - i.e. that she couldn't get a snap bid or get picked up as a quota addition. (This is NOT easy when you know how bid matching works!!)

Unfortunately, she misunderstood her instructions, and started talking about actual suicide - as in jumping off a bridge.

This wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't actually talked someone out of committing suicide not 3 months earlier.....

ErikaXO 10-30-2001 10:37 PM

Well, let's see....the Nightmare Pretty Girl story brought this one up from the memory banks!!!!

I can't remember if it was my last rush or not, it was either '92 or '93. There was this really pretty girl hanging around the Delt house the weeks before rush. She was very eye-catching....long, platinum blonde hair, very pretty face, tan, really cute trendy clothes (a little too trendy for preppy old Kent actually but she was so pretty no one cared.) Anyway she seemed pretty cool so those of us who hung out at the Delt house decided to try and chat her up before rush started and we weren't allowed to talk to her anymore. Well, after I beat the swarm of Alpha Phis off her with my boyfriend's baseball bat (just kidding) I approached her with a couple of my friends and she turned this DAZZLING smile on me and said "Oh, you're a Chi Omega? I LOVE Chi Omega!!!!" And the conversation basically laid out the fact that she was only interested in us.

Well come rush, she breezes in first party and everyone loves her. She looks so cute and really stands out, and she is very easy to talk to. We keep her. THEN the stories start to circulate.

According to an Alpha Phi PX, the girl had this unusual nametag on (rushees made their own) with two faces on it. When her APhi rusher commented on it, she replied that it represented her two separate personalities. HUH??? The chick openly admits she has a split personality??????

So we go ahead and have her back, and we find out APhi did too....so we start thinking that it was just a dirty ploy on their part to get us to drop her and lessen the competition. Well then the story comes out from the DG rho chi....at the APhi party, she refused to leave. She was supposed to go to DZ next and she told them she had no interest in DZ and wasn't going to go there. She walked right back into the Phi house and said she was just going to hang out with them again. ??!!!!!!

Considering that APhi and DG are our two major competitors, we thought maybe the whole thing was still a conspiracy because supposedly she wanted us the whole time. So....we invite her back again!!!!! She kept going on about how she loved Chi O and was so happy there and how she loved me and Cat and Lori (we were "top rushers" who kept getting assigned to her) etc. We thought things were going great, and then there was a buzz from one of the OTHER chapters about her, something about her running her mouth at one of the parties and saying "I'm going to be an Alpha Phi or a Chi Omega." Well we went ahead and invited her to pref....but what we didn't know until it was too late was that WE WERE THE ONLY ONES TO EVEN BRING HER BACK FOR THIRD!!!!! Apparently the APB about "Psycho ______" was heeded by all but us. Now she's back for preference and we have to grin and pretend everything is ok, and she's all emotional and sure she is about to be a sister, when all the time we know that we aren't going to extend her a bid. YIKES. It was pretty ugly when her PX had to call her and tell her not to bother going to bid day because she didn't get a bid. She refused to talk to any of my sisters after that....I ran into her one day and I got her to sit down and talk to me about it and I asked her point blank about the incidents. She of course had a logical explanation for everything.....it made me wonder. But years later I got a job at a major insurance carrier and guess who was working there.....you got it!!!! She caused a lot of trouble there too. I guess it really was her, not us.

The other funny thing is the story I mentioned in another thread, where I had a carload of rushees and was taking them to another house when one of my sisters rearended me. I had way too many girls in my car and half of them got thrown into the front seat. I jumped out to check the damage as my car was brand new then, and luckily there was only a tiny scratch....I wanted to kill Christine but of course I had to be all sisterly for the rushees. Then one time two girls hit head-on....we don't have a specific sorority row, the houses are kind of spread all over Kent. But there is a tiny little road that leads to a cul-de-sac called Fraternity Circle. The road curves very sharply so you can't see what is coming....the Alpha Phi, DZ and DG houses are back there and this APhi comes barreling in around the corner and BOOM right into some DG girl.....yikes!!!! (Nobody got hurt but I think all the rushees they had in their cars dropped them!!!!)

pbpck 10-30-2001 11:53 PM

Ok...technically I am not to talk about rush stories outside of rush, but this is fairly anonymous.

I had one girl with a Bert ( a la Bert and Ernie) unibrow who asked me the second I picked her up "So are you smart, because I want to be around smart people. I know sorority girls tend to be pretty dumb and I am really smart." I was stunned! Hello? We all got in to the same university. To make things worse, the conversation revolved around how she has watched this special on how helium was found in the ocean (she had been staring at our baloons blankly for the past few minutes)...luckily I remember all my chem classes and could relate to her so that it wasn't completely painful.

There are so many stories from the older girl that were outrageous. Luckily, that was my oddest one. Sometimes you wonder why certain girls rush at all.

XO_Princess 10-31-2001 12:07 AM

I can't believe all these stories about PNM's giving sisters the finger!! Like, what do they think, it's going to help?? Good Lord, ya'll!!

maggieaxid 10-31-2001 09:05 AM

Oh, I remembered this one last night too.Speaking of Name Tags....We encourage our rushees to make their own name tags, something that will make them stand out from the crowd and help the sorority women remember them. (ie. mine was Maggie from the Simpson's because My name is Maggie and i am from a town called Springfield...to this day people remember it)...anywhoo, we had this rushee come into a party and i asked her about her name tag because it was a pantrydog wrapper. (pantry dog's are like hot dog's from 7-eleven, wawa, or circle K depending what part of the country you are in.) she told me that pantrydog's were her favorite food and in fact she loved all types of hot dogs. and that she ate hot dogs constantly. when i tried to change the subject from something non-hotdog related she kept telling me all about hot dogs. like the different kinds, what she likes on them, the many dishes you can serve them with, ect.
Needless to say she was dropped. And i think she was released after first round too.

ZetaLuvBunny 10-31-2001 10:40 AM

HA!

Hot dogs?!? Eww!

Well...one of my sisters (also was my Rho Chi this year) told me a story that happened two years ago...She said she was a Rho Chi that year also, and that one of the rushees in her group had asked her "if I get into a sorority, and I get pregnant, will I get kicked out?" She was abruptly dropped by everyone. Can you believe the nerve?

I think the girl I referred to was dropped by every house. She then tried to COB. The Panhellenic VP-Recruitment gave her name to all the houses, and noone contacted her (even though there are about 10 houses here that can COB). The girl kept calling and calling the Panhellenic office, and finally the VP-Recruitment pulled me aside and asked me what was so horrible about this girl that noone wanted her. I would have felt bad if noone wanted her due to looks or something stupid she had said, but to hell with her if she is going to flick off one of my sisters!

fuzzie 10-31-2001 01:30 PM

During rush parties we usually play a game/ask a question that the rushee and her rusher each answer. Well, first of all, I don't know who made up the questions this particular semester, because this one was just asking for trouble. Anyhow, the question she got was something along the lines of, "What was the best thing you ever did to get revenge on someone?" The rusher answers first to give them a little guide on how to answer a question, but I guess she wasn't paying attention. She proceeded to tell everyone in the room a story about how she slept with her best friend's boyfriend to get revenge on her  . I know that would be my first choice for a sister  .

dzrose93 10-31-2001 01:57 PM

Warning - long story...

I can't remember if I've told this story in another thread or not, so here goes:

There was a girl who went through Formal Rush while I was a junior. In the middle of Rush, which occured a few days before classes started in the fall, the girl was kicked out of her dorm for conduct reasons (if I remember correctly, she physically attacked her roommate) and had to leave school before the quarter started. Therefore, she had to drop out of Rush.

She came back the next year, and rushed formally again. However, by this time all of the sororities had heard about her being kicked out of the dorm and no one gave her a bid. This didn't stop her. She attended every informal rush party held on campus, regardless of what sorority was holding it.

She came to our informal rushes in the winter and spring, and both times she was cut before our invite-only party (which was informal rush's version of a pref party). At the end of Spring rush, our VP of membership personally called each girl who was not given a bid so that they would not show up at the Panhellenic office and be embarrassed in front of the girls who did receive bids.

This girl showed up at the Panhellenic office anyway! She waited around in the hall as the rest of our new girls picked up their bids and then, as the last girl was leaving the office with our VP of membership, she stopped them in the hallway and demanded to know where her bid was! The VP tried to pull her aside and quietly explain (AGAIN) that she didn't receive a bid, but the girl wouldn't hear of it. She made a huge scene in the hallway (which is in the center of our Student Union where tons of people were walking by), screaming at our VP about how she should have been given a bid and what terrible people our sisters were to have not extended her one. Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there...

Apparently, this girl's mother was just as crazy as her daughter...

I was president at the time all this happened (lucky me  ) and received a very nasty letter from mommy dearest basically saying that she would make sure Delta Zeta would pay for "abusing" her daughter. Around the same time I received a call from the Student Affairs director. The mother had called him, crying about how her daughter had been emotionally abused by our sorority and how we had violated Panhellenic's policy stating that rushees are entitled to fair, ethical treatment by NPC organizations during the rush process. So, I had to take the VP of Membership to the meeting with me (along with a copy of the nasty letter) to explain why the girl wasn't extended a bid. We had to tell the director exactly how our informal rush process works (basically, interested girls show up to open parties and the ones we like are invited back to one final party before bids are extended). We explained that we did everything in our power to prevent anyone who was cut from being "embarrassed." We also mentioned the girl's history of rushing every other sorority on campus and not being picked up, in addition to her history of being a conduct problem in her old dormitory. That, combined with psycho mom's letter, were enough to prove our point.

In the end, my chapter was cleared of all the false accusations and the girl ended up pledging a local sorority. One of my best friends was a member of the local, and tried to warn the girls that they were asking for trouble, but at the time their policy was to accept nearly all interested rushees so they took the girl. She lasted a few months before causing all kinds of turmoil among the girls and being kicked out.

XO_Princess 10-31-2001 03:53 PM

I just remembered this...I was talking to a PNM during Rush, and all she could talk about was why wasn't KKG at our school, how her older (biological)sister had been a Kappa, how we really needed Kappa at our school, blah blah blah. I was like, ok, I'll get right on that  -not that I have a problem with Kappa, my cousin is one, but come on-why go to one house, and talk about another? And then-when I would try and ask her questions, she'd be like-oh, thats not the kind of questions my sister was asked during Rush...at Kappa!! AHHGGGG

Needless to say, we cut her.

AOPiLaLa 10-31-2001 04:37 PM

This isn't a rush story but what XO princess said about the Kappa girl reminded me of something. When I was home for Christmas my freshman year(pre rush--we didn't rush till Feb), I ran into a girl I went to high school with and she went on and on and ON about how wonderful Kappa Delta was and how I really should look at Kappa Delta when I rushed and it was really the only house to be and everyone who was anyone in this world was a KD. When I told her we didn't have KD at my school, she looked at me all funny and was like "oh, your greek system must be really bad--KD is only at schools that are really good--I feel bad for you". Now mind you, we have 7 women's GLO's at Elon, all NATIONALLY strong, just not KD. The funny thing is, after I did rush and go AOTT, I kept thinking during voting in the later years, Man, I would have cut that girl--she is so not AOTT! I guess some people can go a little GLO crazy!!

ZetaLuvBunny 10-31-2001 04:45 PM

When I was a rushee this year, another girl in the same Rho Chi group as me really got on my nerves. First of all, she and her best friend were both rushing. She would only, and I do mean ONLY talk to her friend and the Rho Chi. She totally ignored everyone else in the group, and it was obvious that she was completely full of herself. Of course she had looks to envy---she was very pretty, but she didn't have to be snobby about it! She completely tried to kiss our PX's butt, too. She reminds me of the character Nicole on the WB's Popular (totally into herself, and willing to do anything to get her way).

Every night of rush she would openly blab about which sororities she did or didn't like, and eventually I overheard her telling her friend, "The XYZs just LOVE me! But I think they're dorky. I was meant to be an ABC, anyhow. They're the only girls with fashion sense." Prior to rush, she had even

Well, I was crossing my fingers that everyone would drop her because she was such a complete *itch. Eventually I was just hoping that her and I wouldn't end up in the same sorority. Thankfully, we didn't. She went "ABC" like she said she would...I feel sorry for her sisters.

ladyj39 10-31-2001 07:14 PM

We had informal rush last spring that mainly consisted of COB parties. Panhellenic held an informational where all the Presidents got to make a speech, and all the sororities had tables out with pictures and information. When the rushees came to our table, we noticed that one girl was acutally a boy dressed as a girl! He/she was dressed in a shirt, miniskirt, tights, and a silver hello kitty backpack! Louise aka Louis told us all about how he/she's always dreamed about being in a sorority. The whole I was talking to him/her I tried not to stare at his/her adam's apple and keep a straight face.

Needless to say, he/she did not get a bid from any house.

Another semester we had a woman rush who was married and had three kids. She said she got pregnant in college and wasn't able to rush. She was only invited to pref one sorority (which is no longer on our campus), but did not get a bid.

DeltaBetaBaby 10-31-2001 07:22 PM

A girl pledged my house last year, we will call her Brooke Stone. She ended up depledging, and rumor had it she was rushing again this year. Sure enough, she did, so we obviously wanted to release her immediately. The only problem was that there were two Brook Stone's rushing!

I wanted to be absolutely sure that we got rid of the right girl, so the Panhellenic computer chair let us know which one was not a freshman. Good thing we got it right, the other Brooke Stone ended up pledging.

I was the colony supervisor for the Alpha Phi colony at URI, and during our first rush we had all sorts of problems with the Panhel VP of rush (even though we only went through the first round) Anyway she gave Alpha Phi a rush infraction because a girl left with a napkin or something really meaningful considering we were only going through open house and weren't even asking to be counted in quota.

So the ELC and I had to go to this "rush infraction" mediation and the ELC and this Panhel VP (sue is her name) get in this arguemnt about quota. Sue proceeds to tell me that I didn't know what I was doing because when her sorority colonized 2 years before they asked to be counted in quota and for a moritorium after FR so only that colony could COB. Blah blah blah. So needless to say 5 years later this ELC and I still joke about this crazy girl.

Fast forward 3 years after that rush I go to my boyfriends Christmas party at work. I am sitting across the table from this young couple Jake and Susan. Susan talks about how she was in XYZ at URI. And it all starts to come together. Yup sitting right across from her!

At my wedding last year I threatened to have the ELC and Sue sit together but the former ELC wouldn't hear of it.

LOL ladyj! You should have been like "oh, I love your hair, where'd you get it done?" or like, "wow, you have a lot of muscle for a girl". LOL

The most interesting things to happen to me as a rusher this year was when I went over to talk to a pair of girls my roomate was talking to. I'd never met either one but as I walked over one girl looks at me and screams (at the top of her lungs) HOLY SH*T! My first reaction would have been what the...., but I just kinda looked at her. Then she explained she was just really excited to see my nametag...we had the same name (not too common) with the same spelling (also not so common). It was definitely out of place during rush, but she didn't mean anything rude by it. She was a nice girl, but didn't make it past that round. Our girls come off as mildly sweet girls and this girl was a little hardcore, not really a match.

I took a girl through one of our first round parties this year, and she was talking about being homesick. We started talking about where she lived, etc., when she decided to throw in...."What makes this homesickness worse is that my dad is a *very successful* doctor, so we have a really amazing house, and a place at the beach and in the mountains. Every year we add something new onto our house. A few years ago we got a **movie theater**, last year we got two tennis courts and this year we added a full sized basketball court. I mean, since we have such nice things it makes living in a dorm so terrible by comparison..." What am I supposed to say to that? Good for you? She was an in-house legacy to XYZ sorority, though, and I'm glad she went there!

The other terrible rushee I had came through that night and was also a double in-house legacy for the same sorority (let's say XYZ) as the first girl. I saw that one of my sisters had a bored-looking rushee so I went over to help. I tried to get her (the terrible XYZ legacy) to talk but she would not do it for the life of me! I can usually chat with anyone, so I was pretty shocked! What made it worse is that she kept looking around the room, never making eye contact (I hate that!). When I asked her where she was from, she told me, and I asked if it was hard to be so far from home. She sighed, rolled her eyes, took a deep breath and let it rip. "Look, I have a a brother and two sisters here, so NO, I'm not homesick. I live in such and such dorm, am a (whatever, I forget) major, and BOTH of my sisters are in the same sorority. And YES, we're close. Does that answer all of the questions you were about to ask? I'm sorry, but I've had the same conversation at every sorority tonight and I'm pretty sick of it."

My sister and I were so shocked we didn't know what to do! So we began chatting with each other, since the rushee wouldn't give us the time of day! Thankfully, she didn't have to worry about being bored with us any longer, we dropped her pronto. Her grades from h.s. were AWFUL so most other sororities dropped her too, I'm sure, if her terrible personality didn't get to them first. I don't know how they let her in, with her laughable h.s. GPA, but this girl is an XYZ now, and when I see her on campus (her sorority has Chapter in the same room as we do, so I see her as they are leaving each week) she rolls her eyes or gives me mean looks. XYZ doesn't know what they're getting into with these girls!

LOL!!! :D Only @ SFSU would you HAVE to keep a straight face! You gotta love a campus where the annual coming out party is a major campus event (at least when I was there).

This year at UCLA there was a PNM coming through who told her PX that she wasn't going to the rest of her parties after lunch on the second round b/c she was a legacy to XYZ chapter and they had to give her a bid b/c they hadn't made quota in the past couple of years. She asked the PX for an excuse and when the PX said no, the PNM called her a *itch. Little did the PNM know that the PX was an XYZ. Anyway, the PNM went to her other PX and explained the situation to her and the PX said, "Sure, I'll write you an excuse." The PX wrote excuse forms to the chapters that said, "PNM _____ isn't going to be at your party b/c she says her parties after lunch are not worth going to." Needless to say, the chapters got the hint that the PNM was not someone they wanted to keep around.

Anyway, the XYZ's didn't really like this PNM and then they heard about what she had said/done and called their International officers and got permission to release her. I don't think she got a bid from anyone.
