Uh Oh, I Think I'm Showing my Age?

My college-age babysitter was complaining to me about there not being any good men out there (this is, apparently an age-old problem) when I told her this pearl of wisdom:

You can't just sit back and expect Jake Ryan to come driving up to you in his Porsche

And she totally did not understand what I was talking about!

Does anyone here get the reference? Am I totally outdated??? Amycat! 33Girl! AOIIAlum! Anyone?

I got it! And I am only 19. Well ALMOST 20, but same thing. :) I love that movie and I still wish sometimes for my Jake Ryan to come sweep me off my feet and drive us off into the sunset in his Porsche. I think maybe your babysitter just doesn't know what quality movies are ;), that is one of my all time fav movies EVER!

AOX81 03-15-2003 02:43 PM

I got it, lol. :D

bgsugirlie 03-15-2003 03:50 PM

I don't get it :(

Will someone explain?

Just like you can just sit there and wait for a hunky guy to sit on your dining room table with you and watch you blow out your 'candles'

33girl 03-15-2003 05:04 PM

Especially when there are "sixteen" of them.

Tracy, I am glad I wasn't there, or I would have broken down in tears. Cause you know, Jake's my boy! :)

For all us old farts (basically those well over 30)... when your kids consider 80's rock 'retro' music. ;) :) :D

:D Not YOU! Never! You are ageless!

I got it right away(almost). Actually, my mind first went to the fireman on the Bachelorette. Hmmmm, makes ya wonder, huh?;)

I don't think you're showing your age. If you are, I am! I used Lloyd Dobbler in a similar way. Luckily, all of my friends are John Cusack nuts like I am! :D

Does anyone know whatever happened to Jake Ryan?

Sistermadly 03-15-2003 06:29 PM

I'm probably older than you Killarney, and I don't know who Jake Ryan is. :D I do know who Lloyd Dobbler is. John Cusack rocks.

Isn't it a crime to graduate high school without ever seeing that movie??
You should sit her down and make her watch it.

Oh yeah, I got it.;)

XOMichelle 03-15-2003 07:21 PM

Oh wow, I didn't make the connection till I read the clues. Was that the Actor's name or the character's name?

(and I've seen the movie numerous times... my fave line is "Long Duck Dong, have you seen my automobile?")

I got it right away! And, XOMichelle, that's the character's name. Michael Schoeffling is his real name.

I love that movie! :D

Edited to add that I am still a couple of years from 30.

HA HA, KillarneyRose!

I had to think about it for a second (I knew that the hottie from Sixteen Candles was "Jake", I just didn't remember that his surname was Ryan). Actually my first instinct was "Does she mean Harrison Ford as "JACK Ryan" in Patriot Games?" LOL

Who can forget the line, "I can't believe my grandmother just felt me up?!"
