We had an info meeting a few days ago, where were introduced to our Rho Gammas and we get to see a cute slideshow of Greek life and a "What To Wear" Fashion show for recruitment week. Well, I saw a girl sitting alone so I decided to sit with her and talk to her. As soon as I sat down, she started talking about how she's a legacy at XYZ and how she will for sure get a bid there. Now, I rushed last year and met a couple of girls who were legacies at this same sorority and did not get bids from them. When I told her that was great, but that she should definitely keep her options open, she replied, "Oh there's no need for that...my mother will make sure of it." I was just like oh, okay...

While watching the slideshow, a picture of two girls wearing those letters popped up and she started going, "OMG! That's my house! Those are my new sisters!"

Then, while we were given basic terms, "legacy" came up and this girl literally yelled "OOH! I KNOW WHAT THAT IS! I'M A LEGACY AT XYZ! I KNOW WHAT A LEGACY IS!" in a quiet room full of about 400 girls. Everyone turned to stare at us, and even the PanHel president was kind of stunned and was silent for a second.

WOW..lol you HAVE to let us know what happens to legacy nut

Bahahaha. See, that's what you get for being nice and sitting next to someone who is by themselves. Crazy girl.

I can't remember if I ever posted about this girl, but if I did it was many moons ago so...

I've had some interesting experiences ranging from funny to terrifying...having ridiculous stories is a perk of being a recruitment counselor.

My Gamma Rho group my first year had a girl that was rushing for a second time. I believe she was dropped from recruitment the year before or had dropped herself early on. We told her to be herself and to keep an open mind. She was dropped after Theme and had checked the "Come to my room to tell me I'm dropped" box so we headed over to her dorm before parties started. She sat outside her room with us crying loudly and blasting us for telling her to be herself. We tried to reason with her and pointed out that she shouldn't want to have to put on an act at all times just to be in a chapter. Her response? "YES I WOULD". After 15 minutes of this I had to leave for Panhellenic business so my fellow RCs were left with her. We took the verbal assault because we knew she just needed to let off steam, but really?

During my own year as a PNM one of the girls in my group on Theme night turned around in line to ask me which parties I was going to. I responded, "Chi O, DeeGee, Phi Mu, and Alpha Gam". Her response was, "Oh don't go Alpha Gam. They're so fake, they hung out with me all summer and dropped me today". I distinctly remember (because I'm so short) getting an eyefull of BOOB during this entire exchange because she was well endowed and had chosen a dress that was probably too small on top for my itty bitties. She also entertained us with stories of her exploits that made my toenails curl, and I wasn't exactly naive or innocent. And we'd been on campus about 2 weeks. I remember thinking, "Maybe they dropped you because they hung out with you all summer".

I had the PNM that asked on Casual Night after the parties, "What if I really like a group but I hate their mascot? Should I still pledge them?" It was a lesson in restraint since I couldn't respond with, "REALLY?!" She was also the one that asked on the first night if she could skip the second to go with her friends to Six Flags, asked me which chapters didn't drink because she wanted to "get crazy" as much as possible, and couldn't seem to keep gum out of her mouth, even when we held out our hands to collect any before parties. She was dropped from recruitment.

My favorite was the PNM that lost her shoe coming into DG's party and ran screaming up the ramp (I had miss counted and hadn't realized in the confusion that she was still outside) "WAIT FOR ME WAIT FOR ME" while trying to get her shoe back on. She was also the PNM that insisted on smoking cigarettes in between parties despite our warnings not to because she "needed to chill". We gave up and just let her do it. She cracked me up...she was dropped from recruitment, but I wish she'd gotten a bid somewhere. We could all use someone so laid back at times.

Then the crowning jewel of my campus's PNMs, Polly PNM. She was a little odd from day 1 but had either a 4.0 or close to it and seemed to be for the most part friendly. After listening to her interactions with other PNMs it became quickly clear that she had a need to be right, and that for some reason the fact that she was vegan seemed to be the one thing she thought everyone should know about her. (By the way, she ate products with eggs and milk and obviously was a vegetarian and not vegan...she probably just didn't understand exactly what vegan is). While standing outside one of the parties a centipede crept up to one RC's foot and the second RC quickly killed it. Polly proceeds to scream, "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU KILLED THAT BUG! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" and then begins to cry. As in sob. As in there's tears and snot flying everywhere. That left the RCs to find something to blow her nose with, clean her up, and get her into the party appearing both calm and presentable in about 1 minute and a half. The rest of the night she cried to anyone that would listen about the bug being killed and started wailing again when someone squashed a roach. Apparently she regaled the sororities with this story as well...she still managed to get a bid (probably because her grades were so stellar), but dropped out later.

Ok definately not the weirdest story but... I was preffing a girl and when the party was over I went to stand up to walk her to the door. I hadn't realized that my foot had fallen asleep so when I went to stand it would hold me up. SO I feel catching my balance on the girl I was preffing. After regaining my balance I appologized and grabbed another sister to escort her out. Thankful she walked in the door on bid day so me almost pulling her down with me didn't stop her from ranking us first.

I was talking to a girl at a Rush Event, and she was asking me about Big and Lil sis'. I was telling her about how I have three lil sis' and her response was "So, you're telling me you're a big slut?"
:-O
I did NOT know how to react at all, I was in complete shock because I took it the wrong way at first. Luckily, one of my Lils jumped into the conversation right then and just explained that I made a connection on three different occasions with new members. I still couldn't believe it though! She apologized briefly before the night was over. I think she was shocked though, because the next event I introduced myself to the PNMs as the President of the sorority. She came up to me afterward and apologized profusely this time. :-)

Hopefully, this will be something you'll be able to laugh about over the years with her as a sister...

I just went through recruitment for a new colony at my school and on the first night we had an "open house" where all of the PNMs had the opportunity to chat with alumnae, sisters from the national organization and actives from some of the chapters at schools near us. I was standing in line to talk to the executive director with another girl I'd met earlier when I turned around and noticed one of the girls behind us stroking my new friend's purse as she talked to some other PNMs. My friend had never seen the girl before in her life. Eventually, the girl stopped touching my friend's purse, but never said a word to either of us. I don't know if anyone noticed this except me, but she didn't end up with a bid.

This semester we had a clinger. He would come to our events and just stand around awkwardly while the event went on around him, if you came up to him he'd say a few words but not really engage in conversation. Needless to say he didn't get a bid but he still clings; apparently the day after bid day he called our recruitment chair to ask why he wasn't offered a bid.

Apparently he was also around in the summer and had a habit of inviting himself over to the house even when nothing was going on, and politely declining requests to leave. Weird.

I rushed this fall and had a not so good experience with the first sorority I visited. I was paired with this girl who seemed to instantly not like me and seemed to not want to talk to me. I kept trying to talk to her because this was the sorority I originally thought I wanted to be in, but alas she would barely answer me questions and when she did would act it was the stupidest thing she'd ever heard. I kept trying to talk to her for rest of the party and at least managed to continue to be upbeat and not let her b*tchy attitude towards me get me down, but needless to say that sorority was no longer my top pick. Thank god too, as I've now learned about how cruel they are to their pledges and each other, and it also let me find the sorority that I actually do belong in who is ironically their rival which I didn't even know before hand.
Even worse was it really wasn't just her as every other girl in that sorority that I met during rush week treated me the same way. I still have no clue why either as the other sororities loved me.

QFP and grammar

Odd post for a second post.

^^^Rudeness is not cool. Spreading hazing hearsay ("they are so cruel to their pledges") because a chapter was rude to you is also not cool (and just as rude). Just saying.
