I can't remember if I ever posted about this girl, but if I did it was many moons ago so...
I've had some interesting experiences ranging from funny to terrifying...having ridiculous stories is a perk of being a recruitment counselor.
My Gamma Rho group my first year had a girl that was rushing for a second time. I believe she was dropped from recruitment the year before or had dropped herself early on. We told her to be herself and to keep an open mind. She was dropped after Theme and had checked the "Come to my room to tell me I'm dropped" box so we headed over to her dorm before parties started. She sat outside her room with us crying loudly and blasting us for telling her to be herself. We tried to reason with her and pointed out that she shouldn't want to have to put on an act at all times just to be in a chapter. Her response? "YES I WOULD". After 15 minutes of this I had to leave for Panhellenic business so my fellow RCs were left with her. We took the verbal assault because we knew she just needed to let off steam, but really?
During my own year as a PNM one of the girls in my group on Theme night turned around in line to ask me which parties I was going to. I responded, "Chi O, DeeGee, Phi Mu, and Alpha Gam". Her response was, "Oh don't go Alpha Gam. They're so fake, they hung out with me all summer and dropped me today". I distinctly remember (because I'm so short) getting an eyefull of BOOB during this entire exchange because she was well endowed and had chosen a dress that was probably too small on top for my itty bitties. She also entertained us with stories of her exploits that made my toenails curl, and I wasn't exactly naive or innocent. And we'd been on campus about 2 weeks. I remember thinking, "Maybe they dropped you because they hung out with you all summer".
I had the PNM that asked on Casual Night after the parties, "What if I really like a group but I hate their mascot? Should I still pledge them?" It was a lesson in restraint since I couldn't respond with, "REALLY?!" She was also the one that asked on the first night if she could skip the second to go with her friends to Six Flags, asked me which chapters didn't drink because she wanted to "get crazy" as much as possible, and couldn't seem to keep gum out of her mouth, even when we held out our hands to collect any before parties. She was dropped from recruitment.
My favorite was the PNM that lost her shoe coming into DG's party and ran screaming up the ramp (I had miss counted and hadn't realized in the confusion that she was still outside) "WAIT FOR ME WAIT FOR ME" while trying to get her shoe back on. She was also the PNM that insisted on smoking cigarettes in between parties despite our warnings not to because she "needed to chill". We gave up and just let her do it. She cracked me up...she was dropped from recruitment, but I wish she'd gotten a bid somewhere. We could all use someone so laid back at times.
Then the crowning jewel of my campus's PNMs, Polly PNM. She was a little odd from day 1 but had either a 4.0 or close to it and seemed to be for the most part friendly. After listening to her interactions with other PNMs it became quickly clear that she had a need to be right, and that for some reason the fact that she was vegan seemed to be the one thing she thought everyone should know about her. (By the way, she ate products with eggs and milk and obviously was a vegetarian and not vegan...she probably just didn't understand exactly what vegan is). While standing outside one of the parties a centipede crept up to one RC's foot and the second RC quickly killed it. Polly proceeds to scream, "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU KILLED THAT BUG! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" and then begins to cry. As in sob. As in there's tears and snot flying everywhere. That left the RCs to find something to blow her nose with, clean her up, and get her into the party appearing both calm and presentable in about 1 minute and a half. The rest of the night she cried to anyone that would listen about the bug being killed and started wailing again when someone squashed a roach. Apparently she regaled the sororities with this story as well...she still managed to get a bid (probably because her grades were so stellar), but dropped out later.
