Hiya!
Here is a way that my chapter came up with learning the symbols and the alphabet. You might have already heard it this way, but here's a suggestion! Alpha A Beta B Gamma r (not exactly like the letter, but its close lol) Delta (a Triangle, but looks like an A) So the first 4 are A Bra Epsilon E Zeta Z Eta H Theta 0 (with that thing in the middle of it) These spell EZ HO So, so far we have A bra, and ez ho, for the first 8 letters Iota I Kappa K Lambda A (without the line in the middle, but you know!) Mu M These spell I KAM Nu N Xi E (its not an E but we have to improvise) Omicron O Pi II These letters look like NEON like the car. Rho P Sigma E (it has those curves on it) Tau T Upsilon Y (looks like a Y though, but its not) This spells PETY Phi Chi Psi Omega And these are pretty hard so we couldn't come up with anything. So we have ABra~~~~Alpha Beta Gamma Delta EZHo~~~~Epsilon Zeta Eta Theta IKam~~~~Iota Kappa Lambda Mu NEOII~~~~Nu Xi Omicron Pi PETY~~~~Rho Sigma Tau Upsilon PHI CHI PSI OMEGA..... It sounds really confusing on here, but i swear its really not, just look at the alphabet and break it up. This is how I was taught.. Toodles! |
There is a Greek letter song (like the regular alphabet song) that makes learning the names easy. Unfortunately, that's hard to communicate over email, and I can't sing to save my life anyway. You maybe you could find another Greek org locally that knows it.
We would do this thing where the sisters sat in a circle and had to go around in turn. They had to say the letter that came next, and sometimes draw it, depending on whether we were working on the names or shapes. |
greek alphabet
hiya, i'm the nmc for HB and we use a game called the bomb. the symbols for the alphabet are put on small squares of paper and spread out on the floor. each new member has a chance to 'disarm' the bomb by gathering the cards up one by one in order. if you go out of order, the bomb explodes (aka your turn is over) and the quickest person to go in the correct order disarms the bomb and gets a prize (candy, an adpi mug, stuffed lion, etc) the girls go over the alphabet by singing it and playing for practice throughout alpha ed and by the end of the last session, play for the prize. (everyone gets candy if they aren't the quickest)
also, the girls can use the same game for other things that need memorized in order hope this helps! :) :) :) :) :) |
well naya, i also enjoy the song we sing, finally learned it!! :)

use the song...that is how we teach it.

Alphabet Song
Sorry to crash your board but we actually have a really cool alphabet song that's way cool. It's really catchy. It was recorded at the last National Assembly by brothers across the nation. If you're interested PM me and I'll burn you a copy on CD.

Greek Alphabet Song
Greek Alphabet Song by Keith Petrower:
http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=41885 (Sung to the tune of the ABC song.) Lyrics: ALPHA, BETA, GAMMA... rays? DELTA, EPSILON, hey hey hey! ZETA, ETA, THETA, IOTA Then theres KAPPA and LAMBDA MU and NU and XI (x-i) OMICRON and then theres PI RHO and SIGMA and TAU, too UPSILON, it starts with U PHI and CHI and PSI are fun OMEGA and then you're done Learn all that and then you're set Thats the whole Greek alphabet  |
It's a shame that it's not on the latest CD, because I know two different versions of the song. When we had All-Greek Day, our campus used our one version.
If you'd like to hear it, I could probably sing it to you. PM me, if you'd like. |
