Am I reading this wrong
Because when I read this posting from the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan (Southfield), It seems as though they do not want anyone who lives in Metro Detroit, women or minorities to apply as a board member for the foundation. Here is the information you read it let me know:
EPILEPSY Foundation OF MICHIGAN (Board Member) Location: SOUTHFIELD, MI 48076 Job Category: Community Service and Volunteering Job Description We are currently looking for board members who come from Marketing, Corporations, or who have a personal interest in our mission. We are especially interested in individuals who do not live in Metro Detroit, women, and minorities. All board members receive an orientation and work on a committee or on a fundraising project or help develop a program. ---------- If you are interested in this boardopening or others like it, you may visit boardnetUSA to see a full description. http://www.boardnetusa.org/gateway/m...nprofitID=3811 This posting was on Monster.com (http://jobsearch.volunteer.monster.c...keting&lid=470) and Boardnetusa.org (http://www.boardnetusa.org/gateway/m...nprofitID=3811) I had just got through writing to the organization to figure out if they worded the posting incorrectly or if they really do not want anyone from the three groups to apply. |
I'm reading it that they want someone from outside metro Detroit, a woman or a minority. So I think it's just those living in the metro area that they are kind of excluding. Not sure though, I can really read it both ways.

They are simply trying to diversify their board. It is probably currently overwhelmingly Detroit Metro, female minorities. I wouldn't be mad about it at all, it's a common practice to want to get a board that has a diverse background in these type of things.

Actually I re-read it. I think most of their board lives in Metro Detroit and is non-minority male. They want women and minorities.
But again, they are simply trying to get a group of citizens that they don't currently have. |

But then again at least they weren't as discrimatory as the folks in Halifax, Nova Scotia: Ban on hiring white men overturned http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...acodalogin=yes |

After rereading, I believe that is their sentiment. |
