In the wedding of my dreams, all of my friends from N. Ireland and Scotland would be able to come, along with my family. If money were no object, of course.

I'd love to do a Silver/green themed wedding, with all shades of green from olive to emerald and hints of silver/sparkle. White roses everywhere, of course (they're my favorite and the Tau Delta alternate flower...can't find multicolored sweet peas for ANYTHING!).

Well, you could do two weddings. Hear me out-get married in the US with your family and friends over here. Stay in budget or below budget as much as possible.
Then rent a place in N. Ireland or Scotland and have a blessing service over there so your friends in the UK can be a part of your wedding.
My brother did that when he married-big Indiana wedding with very few guests on his side and then he flew to England and all my family attended a blessing service and a reception there. It wasn't too expensive either.

CINDERELLA! MY FAIRY TALE HAS COME TRUE!!

I mean SERIOUSLY A THEME?? This is a wedding not a birthday party!

ΑΓΔSquirrel10 03-12-2007 07:22 PM

I've always wanted black and light pink to be the colors in mine. The bridesmaids bouquets would be only light pink roses, and mine would be white roses with a few light pink ones thrown in. And the bridesmaids would wear black dresses that they pick out themselves (with my approval). I want pink embroidery or trim or something on my gown.

Rio_Kohitsuji 03-13-2007 10:57 AM

I'm having a very Martha Stewart-esqe wedding :)

MJo19 03-13-2007 11:26 AM

We are having a scarlet and gray color theme.

GeekyPenguin 03-13-2007 01:02 PM

Camo and blaze orange, YAY hunting.

MTSUGURL 03-13-2007 02:04 PM

Depending on the season...

Summer - brown and blue
Spring - blue and white
Fall - brown, gold, red, orange
Winter - red and black

WHat about the time on Fresh Prince when Will was going to elope with a "shaft" themed wedding. :D that was pretty cool.

This makes me think of having a Bloods wedding. In my neighborhood, you best go with blue and black, for Crips.

It's totally okay to have a gangsta wedding if you're really in a gang, right?

Bridesmaid's Dresses - Louis Vuitton is good option

As much as I hate to say this....I've seen it done.

KSUViolet06 03-13-2007 07:32 PM

I wouldn't want to do a theme. Not that I have anything against them, I've just seen way too many "themes gone way too far" kind of weddings (like a pirate wedding on a pirate boat with the bride & groom wearing pirate outfits with their vows done in pirate-speak). I want to just keep things simple.

As far as colors, I like ivory & pastel blue. Since I'd like to get married on a beach, I think those would look really good against the sand/water.

LPIDelta 03-13-2007 07:42 PM

I once witnessed a wedding reception at a Golden Corral...what kind of a theme wedding do you think that was?

Except that the groom was the only white person in the wedding party or in the family at the "reception"...it was really crazy. I was trying so hard to figure it our, my husband had to tell me to stop staring.

Only something like 13% of all US weddings are in the winter. And white with red accents is a very popular winter wedding color (er...colors?). Just FYI.

I am completely committed to a summer wedding. Twilight time when the air is just starting to cool off for the day. It's my favorite time of all and what better time for a wedding than your favorite time of all? I love planning parties and am super creative so I have my dream wedding all planned out, start to finish, with only a few minor details missing but I'll spare you all of that. The "theme" is water because I am a Scorpio, my ex-fiance was a Pisces and my dream husband/celebrity crush is a Cancer (actually, I don't think my "dream husband" has a sign...if he does I missed it, which is highly unlikely).

My colors are lavender and navy blue. My bride's maids' dresses will be two pieces with navy A-line skirts and lavendar tops of their choice and my matron of honor's dress will be the opposite (mostly to keep the lavender away from her glowing red hair). Flowers will be varying blue and purple wildflowers. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have it near a waterfall but if not a giant fountain would suffice. :D

ZTAMich 07-17-2007 02:11 PM

Getting married in October. We're using Brown & Cream. My dress is Ivory. Not a lot of flowers besides the bouquets & other ceremony flowers but a lot of candles & lanterns at the reception.

That sounds really pretty! Everything will be the color of candlelight!

honeychile 07-17-2007 02:47 PM

The best theme weddings I ever attended were when both the bride and the groom were (Revolutionary War, Civil War, etc) reenactors. It gave them a chance to have a historical theme, and get new reenacting clothes!

As for me, I'd only agree to a Christmastime wedding - most of the decorations would already be in place!

PhoenixAzul 07-17-2007 10:51 PM

So I've picked a weird time to get married. I'm not quite sure what the heck I'm planning. We're getting married Nov. 8 of 08. So...late fall, early winter. It is western PA so it could snow. Or it could be beautiful. I've sort of "decided" upon a red theme, with very light gold accents. My dress itself is a "light gold" (ivory to most sane people) so that's sort of why I went that way. Plus it is easy to get bridesmaids dresses in reds and golds and other fall colors.

We think a lot alike, it seems :)

My wedding is also in October. We're using cream, chocolate brown, dark red & rust orange. Also keeping it minimal on the flowers. Since it will be an evening wedding with an outdoor ceremony, we'll have lots of candles there, and at the reception, we're playing on the fall theme.

Ours is an afternoon ceremony. There's a few hanging lanterns in the chapel so I also decided to use lanterns in the reception. We're in a large interior hall so there's little to no natural light coming in from what I remember. I think the candles are great for fall regardless of the time of day!

I agree - candles just give off a great vibe :D

They do. Just be aware of where you're placing them on the tables. At my sister's wedding someone flipped the cloth napkin off the bread basket and it went right into a candle and caught fire! Luckily it was put out quickly, but it was a little scary to hear someone yell "FIRE!" at a wedding! ;)

ZTAMich 07-19-2007 09:10 AM

I think I have some kind of Wedding Planning ADHD. As soon as I think "oh that's what we'll do at the ceremony/reception" I see something else and can't make up my mind. Like today, I saw someone's pics of a lantern centerpiece but with flowers around the base and now I do't know what I want. I need a single solid vision!!

For my wedding, which was May of last year, we did pink, green & white. The pink wasn't just a baby pastel pink and the green wasn't kelly green. I think they called it "celadon". Here are some links to pictures with colors/flowers/etc...

I had a December wedding, and my colors were red and gold. We had white linens with gold candelabras with candles on the tables. I carried red flowers and the bridesmaids wore red and carried white flowers. We left the Christmas decorations that were up in the venue (very understated) and rented a simple wrought-iron alterpiece.

how pretty and girly! i dont know how you got him to agree with all that pink but its beautiful!

our wedding colors are sage green, navy blue and cream. i'm so anti-white that im actually wearing a sage green dress, just to spice things up a bit!

I feel so old or guy-ish or something looking through this thread. In my many years, I've never heard of a wedding with a "theme" other than "we're getting married."
