SAE recolonizing at MIT

The SAE chapter at MIT was closed a few years ago due to alcohol violations, but it looks like they're recolonizing.

There was a picture of the MIT Phi Kappa Sigma brothers on the front page of the Boston Globe this morning holding a picnic at their Beacon Street house. I used to drive by the Beacon street houses all the time when I worked on Beacon street in Brookline. They have some nice townhouses there. Is SAE going to have a house?

Good to see the MIT system is growing again.

Hopefully they'll be able to get a house. Their original house and annex were sold when the chapter closed, but the proceeds were placed in a trust that they can use toward buying a new house. All other NIC and local fraternities are housed, so being unhoused will hurt them during rush - although when Sigma Nu recolonized in the mid-1990s, they were unhoused for around 3 years and they still did pretty well.

Trouble is, housing in Boston and Cambridge is very difficult to come by; the NPC sororities have been trying to get housing for at least 10 years, and only 3 out of 5 have been successful. And 2 fraternities' houses are way out in Brookline.

That's great news - I think SAE has a pretty good alum base in Boston, so it should prove beneficial for them.

The SAE chapter at Boston U., although it's not recognized by the school, has stuck around for a long time and been very successful at getting guys. They've had a ton of alumni support (including alums buying them a house in the area), and I'd imagine the MIT chapter could enjoy much the same.

This is positive news for the inter-greek system as a whole. I hope the base of alums in the city, internationals etc will be able to ensure it's a safe and successful colony, and ultimately chapter incarnation.

Saw that picture too - it was a good one, I only saw the second line at first and thought they were talking about the Kappa Sigma house at first.

Where on Beacon Street in Brookline did you work? I live on Beacon Street in Brookline, so it might have been near where I live.

I used to work in Coolidge corner on the corner of Harvard and Beacon St. in the offices above the CVS building. The organization I worked for has since moved to Cambridge so they're no longer in Brookline.

I love Beacon Street in Brookline, pretty houses, nice shops and plenty of parking and access to the T.

i think they are also a colony at the university of north florida.
