T9

How often does your chapter expel members? I've heard of some chapters that expel roughly 3 members every semester if they get behind on dues whatsoever or get in any trouble at all.

Interesting question that I have often wondered. I can tell you we had a hearing a few semesters ago for approximately three Brothers. All for not paying dues - I can also tell you that none of them were expelled. I am expecting that we may take this route again soon though.

In the 2 1/2 years I've been associated/initiated into Phi Sigma Kappa, we've never expelled a brother. There have been pledges that we asked not to return though.

We usually revoke privilages when someone doesn't do things like pay dues. We're all pretty close and would hate to have to expel someone from the house. That's pretty much a LAST option. It would take something serious and/or repeated "offenses" before I think we would all expel someone from our chapter.

In my chapter, T9 was a last resort, but something that unfortunately had to be done on occasion. After a while, it becomes clear what brothers have no intentions of paying dues (never make any payments - even on a plan, spend money on other things, rack up huge debt). Also, there are sometimes brothers who commit offenses that require it. Financial reasons are the most common and the toughest to get undergraduate agreement on, but we usually had 1-2 a year (at most) that we expelled.
