What to tell an IG in re-chartering.

Brothers,

I have a question to ask. Now, I don't know all of the answers but I have a friend who is trying to recharter a chapter at his school. Just so I get him in the right direction, who could he talk to as far as having someone sponsor? They have advisors but when asked, he doesn't know if they are a brother or not. If I could have a PM or note on facebook, that would be appreciated. Thanks!

It is the responsibility of section staff to appoint a sponsor.

Advisors of Interest Groups and Petitioning Groups don't have to already be APO members, but the sponsor does.

If he is in communication with his section chair and/or region director, he is doing the right things.

And the "Re-" doesn't matter

And as a small caveat, the answer to the question is not affected by whether it is a rechartering or a chartering.

There are relatively few things in the (re)chartering process that are affected by whether it is a "re-" or not.

The ultimate in that is probably Phi Omicron chapter at Ferrum College. It was only after they were *quite* far into the rechartering process that it was discovered that the original charterers of Phi Omicron *weren't*. It turned out that the letter Phi Omicron had been assigned and the chartering scheduled and then delayed and then didn't happen. So the group that thought they were rechartering Phi Omicron were actually chartering it.

See http://www.ferrum.edu/apo/history.htm and probably Jamie's later comments in the thread. :)

Thanks for the info, Randy and Rashid. I have passed this on to him so I'm sure I'll be getting a call from him soon. :) Thanks again!

No Problem

We're happy to give advice. :)

If you'll tell us the school we might be able to get more specific...

Randy

If you tell us the school in PMs please.

:D

Yeah I guess...

But I'm pretty sure from what she's said that the school is either West Point, Harvard or the Sorbonne.

Hmm. I guess.

I just wanted to correct myself, as I have since been told that extension is a regional goal/program/etc. The section chair might very well recommend someone, but I believe it is the Region Director who makes the appointment.

Correct. The RD appoints the sponsor(s).

Further, each region will have an Extension chair, who will be overseeing the various extension efforts.

As far as supporting the IG as they attempt to re-charter I'd like to make it known that APOonline provides FREE chapter management service until they are a once again a full chapter. See http://www.apoonline.org/cms. This has helped many chapters organize their membership and improve intra-chapter communication.

Also I've watched a chapter go through all of the steps into becoming a chapter so if you have any specific question feel free to ask me!

Best of luck!
-Tony

The seems a little spammish, Tony. Please be mindful of GreekChat's terms of service.
