Mizzou Recruitment 2017

Any new updates on Mizzou recruitment for 2017?

There are about 1285 PNM's that are currently registered versus about 1500 last year.

Does this make it more competitive or the PNM's or the Chapters?

With legacy status at 3 houses and very strong rec's at 3 more houses, what are the possibilities for having lots of choices after Round 2?

Does this make it more competitive or the PNM's or the Chapters? Neither, actually, when you come down to it. Because RFM comes into play and I think that it is pretty much a universal that Mizzou is competitive regardless of the size of the PNM pool.

With legacy status at 3 houses and very strong rec's at 3 more houses, what are the possibilities for having lots of choices after Round 2? We have no idea. It's up to how your daughter presents herself and whether she is a good fit for the chapters that she visits, including her legacy chapters and "strong recs" chapters. She may not even like any of those chapters when she goes through. No point in speculating or worrying.

It's Membership Selection, and is in the chapters' hands. That's the bottom line. It was that way when we went through, too.

HA! Easier said than done! She is a strong candidate with lots of leadership activities in the past as well as being a good conversationalist! She is much calmer than mama is!

I wrote 10 rec's for other schools for my sorority and even though she is my daughter, I didn't see a stronger resume than her's so I hope the chapters see the same thing.

^^^ I want to bring you lots of treats and hold your hand and all that, because I really am not such a hardass. Please know that it will all work out - one way or another - and for the duration, I invite you to come stay with me. We can do spa, pool, catered meals, adult beverages, and so on. I will even get a cabana boy (I know, huh?). Would that help?

In some ways I think it's (rush) harder on you than on her. And I do care. I want everyone to have what I've had, regardless of the letters or the perceived "status" (which seems to appeal to some way more than others, if you get my drift) To me, social media has somewhat ruined rush. So many "Hollywood videos" and lots of rainbows and glitter, when in reality it's the day to day moments that I recall and cherish. Flying kites on the El Cap or Refugio beaches during a retreat. Sitting up all night with a sister whose heart hurt. Raiding the kitchen (will never tell how I got in, don't even ask). And many other examples to which I am positive you relate.

Let us both hope that she finds a home at Mizzou. OK?

Well, the good news is my "sisters" each have a day next week to "babysit" me....which includes wine and more wine.

AND, I have to take her twin to college that week and they don't have recruitment until Spring so I get to do it all over again in 5 month.....

I will need to go through some sort of "rehab" after this....

Also, in case what you're asking is whether fewer PNMS results in more competition for fewer spaces, not really. Quota is determined by the number of PNMS at pref divided by the number of chapters. So whether that is 1000 PNMs or 1500 PNMS, there is a place for every PNM who maximizes her options. Beyond the resume, if your daughter can show interest in every house to which she is invited and can hold a good convo, she should fair well.

Good Luck to your daughter, although it sounds like she has a great resume and will be prepared well for recruitment by you.

Let us know how things are going for her (and you).

Good luck to her!

My daughter is an active. She won't be there for recruitment this year due to other commitments - she's a senior and in an internship. But I remember being the Mom on your end well.

updates?

tds81510 08-14-2017 06:50 PM

Today was Round one..
Eight houses
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Alpha Delta Pi
Chi Omega
Delta Gamma
Phi Mu
Sigma Kappa
Phi Mu

She had a wonderful time but did get pretty exhausted at the end....likes the girls in her group and had some great conversations! Said it was easy to talk to everyone, but after the 3rd party it seemed all the conversations were the same....she said she made the actives laugh a couple of times so she hopes that is good too (she has a pretty wicked sense of humor...)

She has 7 more tomorrow and then the BIG CUT....so Wednesday should be a pretty big day....

Just for your own sanity's sake, you have Phi Mu listed twice. I'm glad she enjoyed herself!

Ooh, a Mizzou recruitment thread!
Good luck to your daughter.

(Yikes. I went through Mizzou rush *47* years ago this fall.)

tds81510 08-15-2017 06:18 PM

Today was second half of Round One and she still had a wonderful time and liked every house she went into!
Delta Delta Delta
Zeta
Kappa Delta
Gamma Phi Beta
Alpha Chi Omega
Kappa Alpha Theta
Pi Phi

She says standing in line with 1300 other women to fill out the card is torture! AND she's hungry and wants to get out of her shoes but having a BLAST!

That all sounds good until tomorrow with the big cuts..

Sciencewoman 08-15-2017 09:14 PM

Advise her to bring some flip flops in her bag, to change into while waiting!

tds81510 08-16-2017 02:49 PM

She got 11/11 back ! Very thrilled over this, as we had heard that Day 2 was big cuts from almost all the houses! She is very nervous but doesn't show it, and she has them spread out over two days.. Five today and Six tomorrow and she has a BIG break between her two favorites so she can go back to dorm and "refresh"!
