Greeks In Sitcoms
Does anyone remember which fraternity and sorority the Happy Days gang joined? Somehow, I thought they were Beta Theta Pi and Delta Gamma.
Are there other sitcoms with fraternal members? |
"Bye Bye Blackball" episode of Happy Days: Richie, Ralph and Potsie endure the harassment of "hell week" to prove themselves worthy to enter their college fraternity, Phi Kappa Nu.
|
"Whose Face is This Anyway?" episode of Golden Girls:
Rose and Blanche have an extended discussion of their sororities. Blanche says she was an Alpha Gam. Rose says she was an "Alpha Yam." Incidentally, in real life the actress Eddi-Rue McClanahan who plays Blanche was a Kappa Alpha Theta. |
"King Richard's Big Night" episode of Happy Days: Newly crowned Delta Gamma King, Richie Cunningham, loses his inhibitions and offends his friends.
|
BJ Hunnicutt of MASH 4077 (played by Mike Farrell) was educated at Stanford University and was a member of the "Tau Phi Epsilon" fraternity.
|
Hayden Fox (played by Craig T Nelson) of "Coach" is a Beta Theta Pi. One episode shows his pledge paddle on the wall.
|
On “Ozzie and Harriet”, Ricky’s older brother David was in a fraternity in real life, and they mentioned it on the show. I’m thinking maybe Kappa Sigma?

I guess many of the details of the show mirrored the real-life experiences of the actors. https://www.jeserie.org/uploads/Ozzi...20Advisors.pdf |

I don't know about that, but Tootie on "The Facts of Life" pledged "Gamma Gamma Mu." She didn't initiate, though
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6rc1do https://theveryspecialblog.wordpress...ek-connection/ I imagine there are a lot more sitcoms with made-up orgs than real orgs represented. |
That storyline in The Facts of Life is where I first became interested in sororities!
|
Bubba on Mama’ Family joined a fraternity at his junior college and went away on a “Hell’s Weekend” retreat. I remember distinctly he was talking about getting hazed and I asked my mom why someone would put themselves through all that lol.
The fraternity was called Sigma Alpha Pi, and he had a shirt that said (erroneously but funnily) SAP. He was proud to be a SAP, lol. |
Danny Thomas
There was an episode I remember seeing in The Danny Thomas Show re-runs where his daughter, Terry, and her friend want to pledge the elite/exclusive High School Sorority, Psi Psi Psi, but she is afraid her father's show business work is too low class for the daughters of surgeons, attorneys, etc. Uncle Toulouse made an appearance.
