Sorry for the crash...but that pin is beautiful!

Anyone remember the beautiful antique multi-color jeweled Kappa badge on eBay a couple of years ago? Seems like it went for over $2,000.

This one is spectacular too.

Kinda makes me want to stay home tonight and watch the snipers on eBay come out!

Wow, that is gorgeous.

If it's really as old as the seller says it is (which I would believe) it was made before Kappa pins were really standardized. I don't think our current stone options became standardized until the 40s or 50s. I saw a beautiful key with rubies when my chapter was colonized. I asked the sister about it, and she said she worked for the Heritage Museum and had borrowed it from there.

If my mm to inches conversions are correct, it's also quite a bit bigger than ours are today. I know older badges were much bigger than modern ones.

I wonder how high it will get? If only I weren't young and broke!

Yes. Early badges were custom made and there are some gorgeous old ones out there.

I also wanted to say that the shape and placement of stones is quite similar to one of our modern day award keys.

An exciting end to the auction! (Price increased over $1200 in the last 4 minutes.)

Final price: $2275
Winning bidder: 1sigmanu

I hope to heavens he has a Kappa wife who will donate it to their HQ!

cuteASAbug 05-01-2007 08:24 PM

If I won that badge, I wouldn't donate it back to HQ, I'd wear it and pass it down to any (hopefully) future legacies.

Realizing that Kappa Kappa Gamma was the first NPC group to establish a museum...and knowing they have TWO museums...and believing that hundreds of thousands of members would be able to view and appreciate the beauty of this badge...and hoping that this treasure would never again be for sale on eBay (!) ...

I think the fraternity's HQ is the perfect place for it!
