Masters in College Student Personnel?

Mods feel free to move this if this is wrong place...

Anyone have a master in CSP or anything similar who now works in Student or Alumni Affairs?

I am considering exploring this after many years as a volunteer (and the frightful corporate world layoffs I see all around).

i am looking for a program in Northern NJ but don't know where to start as the program names themselves are so varying. Anyone have any info or guidance?

These are typically in School of Education, right?

Thanks in advance!

I have a Master's in Adult and Higher Education Administration. Many people with this degree where I went to school go into Student Affairs. I hope to get a position as a Student Activities Director one day. It's a really competitive field, and there seems to be no job availability in my area or any other nearby big cities...unless you want to do something like financial aid (gags). Now you'll find job openings in the middle of no where, like Montana. That's not my cup of tea.

Yes, this program tends to fall under the school of education.

I am currently earning a graduate certificate in Community College Instruction. I would like to be a student adviser, registrar, or admissions.

I think I want to look into earning either a masters in Higher Ed Administration or Counseling Education.

And yes, as previously posted...it is in the School of Education.

One of my good friends has a Masters in College Student Personnel Administration. She graduated last May, and is currently a Hall Director at Texas A&M. I'll pass your questions on to her. If you have additional questions, feel free to post them.

I'll graduate with my Masters in May. The job field is a little dry right now, especially for people not interested in residence life.

Most programs are within a counseling program in the education school at universities. Mine is under educational foundations.

Denise - look for things called SAHE (Student Affairs Higher Education). That's what IUP's is called, I was under the impression that was a fairly popular terminology.

Find a good one and maybe I will think about going with you. :D

I currently work in Student Affairs and have loved every minute of it.

This could be a good resource: http://www.naspa.org

I just got accepted to Drexel's online program in Higher Ed Admin! :D I plan to work in Greek Life advising and move up in Student Affairs from there.
