Bridesmaids Dresses/Groomsman Attire etc.
In this thread, we talk about bridesmaid dresses and other bridal party attire.

Impression Bridesmaids I'm thinking about the dress on the left, in either that purple color or another shade (if available) for my bridal party. |
Cousin is doing J. Crew dresses. We can choose from 4 styles. I'll probably end up wearing one of these two (they'll be in Black).

^^^ I like it cause I think it'll look good on different body types, and the girls I'm thinking of for my bridal party are all different shapes and sizes. Plus I think this is a really cute dress to wear for other events after my wedding.
|
Thanks for starting this thread KSU! I wanted to, but I didn't really want to look like a super creeper since I'm nowhere near getting married. However, a girl does like to dream. Here is my polyvore arrangement of my basic thoughts by what I meant by "different colors and styles that coordinate". Comments would be appreciated. I guess my guidelines would be knee length cocktail dresses in black, navy, or jewel tone purple, with a 40's or 50's feel (or just something classic), and silver or nude heels or flats. However, a pictures says a thousand words.

this is the dress I'll be wearing in April. I'm pretty sure she wants us to wear navy/blue shoes.
http://i34.tinypic.com/2m5arus.jpg Not gonna lie I'm really excited because it has pockets. |
It's funny I saw the title of this thread and knew who started it before clicking on it.

I love the J Crew Line. It's affordable, classic, and flattering to a variety of body types.
They also don't scream "bridesmaid dress" so the girls can wear them again. |
My MOH dress and the other 2 BM dresses.... my sister's getting married in Sept and is doing a peacock theme.

Please keep posting more ideas!
My sister is getting married next April and has adopted the "I don't care what dress you wear, just as long as it matches and it doesn't look like you're about to pick someone up off the streets" thought process. I don't even know where to begin. I wish she'd just tell me what to wear like every other bride has! |

These are the Jim Hjelm dresses my bridesmaids picked (all in "Scarlet"):

LOL!! Ah, some of us girls just like wedding stuff. Pretty to look at. Some of us have also been bridesmaids, Maids of honor, etc. Just spreading the wedding love. |
I wandered into a David's Bridal while on vacation and found a bridesmaid's dress I LOVE.
Two problems: It was on clearance, so I don't know how I'd get one for each of my "of honors" (they searched on the computer, but they didn't have the likely sizes they need anywhere near us); and I haven't picked MY dress yet! It's a style that would totally dictate what sort of dress I wear. I wish I could take this dress to someone and get them to recreate it in white, though. |
^^^You know, if you find a good seamstress in your area, she might just be able to recreate it for you. Custom is the way to go if you REALLY aren't finding something you like.

What about worst bridesmaid dresses you've worn? I'm not claiming the top honors yet, but I am searching the images of Carmen Miranda to give y'all an idea of the atrosity I was forced to wear! |
My best friend is getting married Sept 18 and it's a vintage wedding...
this is her dress (i dont think she is wearing the little cardigan thing) the dress is ivory and she has a champagne sash that goes around her waist for the ceremony and then for the reception she is switching to a pink sash. her jewelry changes between the ceremony and reception as well http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_...ures-All-Gowns being her MOH and only member of the bridal party (just a moh and best man), i got to pick what i wanted!! http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_...esmaid-Dresses it's in truffle...and it has pockets and i love it! :D the groom and best man are wearing ivory shirts, khaki pants (from nordstroms), suspenders, and a tie! not traditional at all! i'll try to post a picture after the wedding! |
If I were getting married tomorrow (not even close) and if money were no object (it definitely will be):
http://inlinethumb60.webshots.com/47...500x500Q85.jpg Wedding dress/shoes, bridesmaids dress (I plan on having 3 max, but possibly just one), reception dress and shoes. |
^^^ Very pretty choices

So umm, the Groomsman attire?

deltag_girl, your friend's dress in on my short list! But, I would have to wear some sort of cardigan thing - no sleeveless at the church. I also want my tartan rosette.
As for BluPhire's questionning the Groomsmen attire, Mr. SID won't wear a kilt, the spoilsport! I do think I've got him talked into a tartan cumberbund, though. |

OK, I just have to say this. There is no such thing as a gray tux. Dinner jackets come in black for winter and white for summer. Bow ties only. Dinner jackets are NOT worn before 6 PM at the earliest. Gray, green, orange, brown, or whatever are worn by the band leader and his people. Very Formal evening wedding = full evening dress (white tie and tails). If it is to be a formal daytime wedding it is full morning coat and waist coat with stiff collar shirt and long tie, not an ascot, which is worn with an open collar shirt and blazer. Semi-formal is a short morning coat (sometimes called a stroller or directors jacket) with a turn down collar and long tie. Lot of leeway in the waistcoat with a short morning coat. Informal is a suit with business shirt and tie. Casual is anything from a blazer to whatever. Note: Deep South in warm weather. White linnen suit, with or without waistcoat, white shirt, long tie. Can be worn day or evening. Old tradition in New Orleans. If its your wedding you choose what you want. Just don't call it something it isn't and don't wear the wrong rig at the wrong time. The eleventh commandment as handed down to gentlemen since time immemorial! |

My friend's hubby wore a linen suit like this one from JCrew for her beach wedding in July. |

Thank you Vesper Lynd. (See Casino Royal to get the reference) We all know most weddings are not formal in the US these days. If it was so you would not see ties or **gasp** ascots at weddings. Thanks for the lesson in proper formal wear, but if we were doing that, then this would be a very boring thread from a Groomsmen prospective. |
I just kind of lol'd at the "band leader" comment. :p
