We don't have a "volunteer position dicussion" thread, so I'll just say this here.
You ever have a day as a volunteer that makes you feel like jump for joy? Today was one of them :) |
Love those days!
|
Yes! I took care of the 50- and 65-year membership pins for our alumnae association. We bought one for a 65-year member who wasn't able to attend our Founders Day, so I dropped it off for her with a note. (It said something like "sorry we missed you" and "thanks for your dedication and service") Turns out she lives at a kind of nursing home, so I left it there for her with my phone number. She called last night and left me the cutest message! Ahhh I <3 little old Kappa ladies!

LucyKKG,
You just made my day!:) Great story. |
Yeah, it was too cute not to share!
Btw, I found out another Kappa lives in the same retirement home! I was writing thank you cards (for something else) and noticed she had the same address as the other woman I mentioned! I wonder if they know... |
Busy day in the world of my volunteer job! How is everyone else doing in their job(s?)
|
busy busy busy. Last night I had to be that mean financial advisor who wouldnt allow a senior to participate in an upcoming event because she hasn't paid her bill. That's the only thing I really hate about my job :(
|
The chapter had elections recently, and I'm excited about my new advisee! Both incoming and outgoing officers will be having meetings with the Leaderships Consultant who is visiting this week, but I won't be able to go when they have theirs. Bummer!

Bumping! Just completed my first year in my new volunteer role. Can't wait for next year!

I'll break this down three-fold!
Phi Sigma Pi: There are only 6 Alumnae Associations and none near me. Alpha Gamma Delta: -Just finished a year as the Ritual officer for GRAC -And, I am the incoming VP for 2011-2012 for GRAC Sigma Alpha Iota: -Still with the Alumnae Interest Group trying to re-charter our chapter -We were just featured in Pan Pipes! (National SAI Magazine) -Continuing into year 3 as Secretary -Also serve on the National Yearbook Directory Committee for Region VI and plan to continue in that position This statement I made during my interview for the article was "spotlighted" in the article. (You know, they center it and make it really big in quotations.) Anyway, I think it's applicable to all groups and something for graduating members to think about. "Active alumnae participation is the key to giving back to the fraternity that has given so much to it's members. College only lasts four years which dims in comparison to the years you could spend as an active alumnae member." ETA (7/24/11): Wanted to add that my SAI alumnae group is now up to 14 members! We need 15 in order to submit our petition! We are aiming for installation on or before Convention 2012 and I hope we meet it so I can run for Province Officer! |
Woowoo,, way to go, "Sis"!!:D
I know that I have been slacking in alumnae duties; we'll see what the few months bring. |
I graduated in May 2010, and have since been attending any alumna event that I can. Some of them just don't work out.
I just agreed to be the Alumnae Advisory Council counterpart for VP Admin at my alma mater. Admin was the position I held during college. I'm excited. The woman I'll be advising is amazing. She is completely dedicated to her position and passionate about Pi Phi. This is also the first time in years that my chapter will have a full alum council! |
^^Wonderful. As for me, I'm headed into year 2 of the same position. Taking on some new chapters. Nervous yet excited.

Here's mine
